Belle couldn't believe she said yes.
She had been trying to ask Ruby out for weeks, but the waitress was always busy with work. She finally found the right opportunity and went for it. When Ruby flashed that perfect smile and said she would love too, Belle knew their first date had to be perfect. She stood next to Ruby, glancing at her nervously as they inched forward in the line. She should have known better than to suggest they go see an anticipated movie on opening night, but she couldn't think of anything else and she wanted to spend time with her.
Belle turned to her with an apologetic smile. "I didn't realize it would be this crowded." she said, feeling her heart skip when those beautiful hazel eyes focused on her followed by that beautiful wide smile. "I-should have known better." She raised her hand to tuck her hair behind her ear.
"It's okay." Ruby responded, nudging her lightly. "I'm with the perfect company so I don't mind waiting." She turned her attention back to the front taking another step forward.
Belle chuckled lightly following suit. She bounced anxiously on her heels, looking at Ruby from the corner of her eye. She allowed her hand to drop slowly, taking in a deep breath, before brushing her hand against Ruby's. Her hand stayed close, waiting for Ruby to take hold, but instead the waitress just stepped forward again as if she didn't even feel it.
Belle tried to hide the disappointed pout that crossed her lips. Her teeth pressing into the bottom one as she raised her hand to run it through her hair. Ruby glanced at her and smiled before looking away. Belle decided to take another shot and dropped her hand again. She brushed her fingers lightly against Ruby's and waited.
Again, Ruby did nothing. The smile remained on her lips. The line moved and she took another step forward. "This is crazy." she noted. "I'm glad we got here early."
"Yes, me too." Belle agreed with a small nod.
She decided to give it one more try. She wanted to feel Ruby's hand in hers. Their fingers intertwined as her thumb caressed the smooth skin on the back of it. The thought sent flutters through her stomach. Her skin warm with the image of their hands clasped together.
They were getting closer to the entrance now. Belle decided this was her last chance. She swallowed hard and inched a bit closer to the taller woman. She released a deep breath and dropped her hand, brushing the back against Ruby's. She let it stay there, pressed against the warmth of her dates hand.
Nothing. Ruby stood completely still next to her. Her smile seemingly wider than it was just a moment ago. Belle sighed, defeated. She shook it off and put on her best smile as they finally reached the front of the line. "Oh, good." she said, hiding the sadness in her tone. "We finally made it."
Belle felt her breath catch in her throat at the unexpected feel of Ruby's hand in hers. The darker haired woman shifted her grasp so their fingers intertwined. She raised Belle's hand to her lips, pressing a small kiss on the back as her eyes locked on the surprised blue staring back. She smiled against her skin, pulling back for a just a moment as the blush made it's way up Belle's neck and filled her cheeks.
"Thanks for asking me to come tonight." Ruby said, placing another small kiss on her hand.
Belle could not stop smiling, the pink filling her cheeks and neck. "Thanks for coming." she replied as Ruby lowered their hands between them and they walked into the theater...
