Harm opened the door and was shocked as he came face to face with Mac. Her wedding was due to start later that day; she was looking like a princess in her beautiful white dress. "Mac?" Harm didn't know what to say. She stepped inside as if in a trance, then fell into his arms, silently sobbing as only a person can when their heart has just been broken.

As Harm held her, he slowly realised what could have put her into such a state. He pulled her away from him, gently turning her head to look into her eyes. "Was it Brumby?" he asked softly. Mac nodded. Her pain shone through her tear-filled eyes. Again she rested her head on Harm's chest as he wrapped her arms around her, affectionately stroking her hair. He heard her whisper, "ReneeHarm, he was with Renee."

A dull pain hit Harm squarely in the chest, but he was not surprised. He had noticed the attraction between Renee and Brumby months earlier, and they had tried their best. It was hard to be with someone who didn't truly love you. But, how could they do it? How many times had he heard Brumby say, "I love you, Sarah," in that annoying, grating guttural accent that made Harm want to punch the 'bloody' Aussie out; only for him to cheat on her. On their wedding day!

Suddenly he knew why this news was hurting him so much. It wasn't the loss of Renee - somewhere inside him, he had known that would happen from the moment he set eyes on her. It was that Sarah was so upset. If she never really loved Brumby, as he had suspected, she wouldn't be so upset. She must have really wanted to marry him

Suddenly, she pulled away from Harm's embrace. As Mac looked into his eyes, he almost thought he saw a glimmer of hope in her eyes, a reflection from his own. There they stood, staring searchingly into the other's eyes, until finally, there was a whisper. "Is it too late?"

"Too late for what?" Her mouth formed the beginnings of a smile. Maybe the day she had been wishing for had finally come

"I love you, Mac," The words that Harm had been holding in for so long came out like a sigh; with them, one solitary tear, which inched down his face as he waited. Time was crawling by unbearably.

As she kissed him, and they held each other, the dreams of two people finally came true.
