Beware. Spoilers. Duh.

Disney is Loco for Coco

Chapter 1: Preparations

Today was a very special day in the Magic Kingdom. An event that does not happen often and comes only on rare occasions was happening today. Well, rare in the old days. Nowadays, it happens at least once a year. The progress for creating animation seems to go faster as the years past.

It was time again for the gates to open.

Mickey Mouse stood in front of the golden gates, hands on his hips and a big smile on his face. "Gosh, this is going to be great!" Behind him, his fellow Disney characters were getting ready for the welcoming party. People and animals set up tables and booths, brought food, hung decorations (or magically in the case of the more magical folk), and a stage was built, courtesy of Fix-It Felix, Wreck-It Ralph, and Eugene Fitzherbert.

"Hey, Eugene! Where do you want the rest of these?" Ralph called out, nodding his head toward the pile of wood in his giant hands.

Eugene, or Flynn Rider as some people might call him, look from his position, kneeling on the stage nailing planks down. "Um, I think we're good. You can just toss those away or something."

"Okay." Ralph walked off to find a dumpster. Eugene set a nail down and raised his hammer.

"Stage's all set!"

Felix jumped right next to Eugene, startling him so much that he accidently hit his thumb with the hammer. He dropped the hammer and grabbed his hand. "HA! Felix!"

"Sorry for the scare, Flynn." Felix twirled his magic hammer and put it in his belt. "But I gotta say, we did wonderfully on this stage and I gotta feeling this is really going to make the newcomers feel welcomed."

"Yeah," Eugene said through gritted teeth, cradling his hand, "For a family that thought that music's a curse, this will have them thrilled."

Felix stood there sheepishly, laughing nervously. "Well…"

"They don't anymore, Eugene," Rapunzel replied, sliding down from the roof of the stage to the floor, using her long, long hair as rope. She was in charge of painting the stage, designing it with visuals of representations of the newest movie's themes. "Everything was resolved in the end and music brought them back together as a family." Rapunzel kneeled down next to her beloved and gently took his hand. "Do you want me to heal it?"

Eugene smiled, his facial features softening. "Naw, just a bit of a sting. I'm fine now. How's the painting going?"

"I'm all finished. Do you think they'll like it?"

"They're going to love it." Eugene cupped her cheek and gave her a quick peck on the lips. "I'll just finished this one nail and joined you at the gate."

"Ok. I can't wait to meet them!" Rapunzel jumped off the stage, exuberant. Felix jumped off as well, effortlessly landing on his feet.

"I'll just double-check everything and join my wife then." He gave a two finger salute and was off. Eugene chuckled and shook his head. He focused on the task at hand once more and lifted his hammer.

"Surprised!" Vanellope materialised behind Eugene, startling him.

"AH!"

Hiro turned his head at the sound from his position across the crowd. "Looks like Vanellope's at it again," he commented, turning back to his friends. They were sitting at a round table outside of an ice cream parlor. Wasabi just shook his head.

"I hate it when she does that. She did it to me while my lasers were activated and I almost cut Phil in half."

"It wasn't that bad," Honey Lemon reassured him.

"He tried to bite me as payback!" Wasabi protested.

"Enough about that goat guy," Gogo said, chewing her gum. She blew a bubble and it pop.

"Gogo's right," Fred joined in, "We need to focus on giving the most amazing welcome that the kingdom has ever seen! By flying in on rockets that are also fireworks!"

"Fred, this is supposed to be a low-key welcoming party," Hiro explained.

"But imagine how awesome it would be! We come in and then, BOOM! Color in the sky!"

"I would advise against that," Baymax said, standing by Hiro. "A case of that scenario would be very fatal and would result in a probable death."

"Ok, ok," Fred relented, laying back against his seat. "Still be cool, though."

"Speaking of death," Wasabi chimed in, "I think it's really interesting what this new movie has brought in."

"Not only are we going to have a new world and new friends, but a new afterlife too!" Honey Lemon gushed. "It's incredible!"

"Yeah. I mean, the Underworld is cool and all, but man, is that place creepy!" Fred said, sitting back in his chair, arms slung over its backrest. "And that's where Hades hangs out. Funny guy, but short temper. Not to mention, a bit evil-y."

"Yeah," Hiro said, distractedly. He tapped his fingers against the table's surface. "Do you guys think...that maybe...some of the characters-the good ones that died-will end up appearing in that place where that kid went?

His friends exchanged glances, a bit of sorrow in their eyes. Honey cleared her throat, her tone gentle. "Hiro, we all shared that same thought, but…"

"We agreed not to get our hopes up," Gogo added.

Wasabi placed a hand on the younger boy's shoulder. "We all miss him. There's not a day that we don't think about Tadashi."

"He was the best guy that anyone would be honored to be known by him," Fred added.

Hiro looked down, a frown on his lips. When he looked up, he faked a smile. "Yeah, it's fine." He slipped from Wasabi's comforting hand and stood up. "I'm gonna go and see if Aunt Cass needs any help setting up her section." Despite their protests, he left with Baymax following him.

"My scanners indicate that your endorphins levels are low," Baymax droned.

Hiro sighed. "A little. Ever since we arrived here, I hoped Tadashi would be here too. You'd think in a place full of magic and the impossible, that someone can come back from the dead just like those villains do."

"It is an abnormality, but research shows that big gatherings and social events are good for increasing endorphins levels."

Hiro let out a laugh. "Yeah, a party for the living and the dead. It's gonna be great."

"This is going to be a disaster."

Judy gave Nick a reassuring look. Both were not too far from the gates, standing near a lamppost and a cart with Mickey Mouse balloons."Nick, deep breath. No need to be nervous."

His tail frizzed up. "I just don't get why Mickey needs us to be in the front with him and be the first ones to greet them. Why can't Moana just do it?"

"Because as the characters of films that came out last year, it is our responsibility to help the newcomers learn about this place and to make them feel welcome," Judy explained, straightening Nick's tie. They were both in their police uniforms, their hats tucked in the nook of their arms. A human hand settled itself on the fox's shoulder.

"Come on, Nick. Since when have you been the nervous type?" Moana asked, kneeling down beside him. She was dressed in the outfit she wore at the end of her movie, a crown of flowers encircled her head.

Nick grimaced. "Since the last time we did something like this and you hit me with your stick."

"It was an oar, and I did apologize for that," Moana said, standing up. "I was just really surprised when my people and I found ourselves on the ocean one moment, then the next sailing through some gates and meeting talking animals."

"Yeah, that's another thing I'm worried about," Nick added. "Last time, me and Carrots got drenched by that ocean and nearly got run over by a canoe. A massive canoe!"

Judy smiled, amused. "It'll all be fine. No canoe this time."

Cawww!

The bunny, the fox, and the chief's daughter look up to see a giant hawk heading their way. Nick groaned. "Great. Bird brain is here."

With a brief flash, the demigod Maui appeared in his human form in mid-flight. He landed with a flourish in front of them. "Hey, guys," Maui greeted, his magic fishhook slung across his shoulder. "Hope I'm not late."

"No, you just made it by…" Judy checked her watch."...four minutes."

"Barely!" Daisy pushed her way through Judy and Nick, clipboard in hand and a scowl on her face. She waved a pen in Maui's face. At least, as high as she could to Maui's face. "Don't think you could get away for being late because you're a demigod! When I say to be here ten minutes before the gates open, then you be here exactly at that time!"

Maui held his hand up, palm out. " Easy there, duck."

"That's Miss Duck to you, pal!" Daisy tapped the side of her clipboard with her pen. "Now, everyone, line up. Dress code check."

Maui sighed, but compiled, standing side by side with Moana and the animal cops. Daisy walked down, checking them then putting a check on her clipboard.

"Moana, you look beautiful. Nick, good. Judy, good. Maui..." Daisy looked him up and down. "You could've least put on a shirt."

"Hey!"

"Now come on, come on! Places, people!" She directed them forward, practically pushing them to the gates. "Get to the front and stand behind Mickey! Come on, come on. It's almost time."

Meanwhile, Mickey was making final adjustments.

Mickey closed the call and put away his phone. "Ok, now I just need to check with Genie."

As if on cue, the Genie of the Lamp appeared in a burst of magic. "You call, Mick?"

"Sure did, Genie," Mickey said with a smile. "How's everything?"

"Everything's perfecto, Mickey!" Genie exclaimed. With a wave, a clipboard appear into his hand. "Decorations are up, stage is all set, and Tiana has made special skull sugar cookies just for the occasion. A few of them did cracked, though."

"And how's entertainment?"

"Got a whole bunch of performers...performing tonight. We got Hook Hand and his band, Louie and the Five Fireflies, Sebastian and his orchestra band, Stitch's even going to play an Elvis song." Genie threw the clipboard over his shoulder. "There's enough music to make up for a lifetime without it!"

"Hot dog!" Mickey cheered. Mickey's ears twitched and he turned to see Daisy getting Moana and the others into position. He called over to them. "How's everything, Daisy?"

Daisy quickly tighten Nick's tie, much to Nick's cringe, and turned to the mouse in charge. "Everything's good, Mickey. Everyone is here and reminded of the procedure. All should go right as planned." She crossed her arms and closed her eyes, confident and proud of herself.

"Great. Where's Oswald?"

Her eyes snapped open, suddenly panicked. "The rabbit?"

"Yes."

"Your half-brother?"

Mickey nodded.

Daisy bit her nails, eyes wild with rising panic. "Um..."

Genie came to her side. "Not to worry, my little duckling. I can have him here in a snap." With that he snapped his fingers. A poof of blue smoke and Oswald appeared, still brushing his teeth. As the smoke cleared, he spat out his toothbrush in surprise. "What the heck?! What's going on?!"

"The party of the newcomers of course!" Genie exclaimed before pulling out a large pocket watch. He tapped the glass. "You were running late."

"I thought I had another hour," Oswald explained. He grabbed his head, panicked. "Not less than two minutes! I'm not ready!"

"It's ok, Oswald," Mickey reassured, "Genie?"

"Way ahead of you, Mick." With a wave of his hands, Genie used his magic to transform Oswald's outfit into a blazer like Mickey's. He also had a marigold colored bowtie around his neck. Oswald looked down at his new wardrobe, impressed. "Not bad."

"Bowtie is a bit dorky," Maui commented, earning himself a smack on the arm from Moana.

"I disagree," Genie replied. He transform into the Eleventh Doctor and fixed his bowtie. "Bowties are cool." He changed back as Minnie arrived, clapping her hands in attention.

"Places, everyone! The crowd has already gathered around the gate. Mickey, opening speech. Go!"

Mickey resumed his place at the front of the gates, Oswald and the others standing side by side with him. They face the crowd of awaiting characters and Mickey started his speech, his ear mic switched on.

"Welcome, everyone! Today, we celebrate the arrival of the characters of Coco into the Disney Kingdom!"

A cheer erupted from the crowd.

"Just a week ago, the film was released in theaters and broke records in the Imagineers' World. A beautiful story of culture, music, and the importance of family. An exciting tale of a young boy journeying through the Land of the Dead to follow his dream and unearthing a mystery. The Riveras' story reminded us of the meaning of family and remembering love ones that we have lost." Mickey turns his gaze up, over the sea of people (and animals and such) to the Walt Disney Statue briefly before looking at his brother. There was a time when he didn't even knew Oswald ever existed. Although the meeting wasn't exactly a happy reunion, Mickey couldn't imagine life without Oswald. He placed a hand on Oswald's shoulder and turned back to the crowd. "Walt wanted our worlds to always be connected. Through friendships, through family, through magic, through love. No matter how different we are, no matter where we came from, or no matter the challenges we had gone through, we can always count on those strengths and each other to see us through."

The crowd roared with applause.

Mickey nodded to Oswald, giving him an encouraging smile.

Oswald cleared his throat. "Now, I know how important being remembered is. For the longest of time, I thought I was forgotten, that the world had moved on and I would never return home. But then one day, I was saved from my limbo and found myself in front of this very castle behind all your backs." He waved his hand at the massive castle in the distance, some in the audience glancing back at it. "There are no words to describe the joy I felt: coming back to where I truly belonged. It just goes to show how powerful a memory is. And that's another theme the movie had: the importance of remembering. As long as the memories are alive, the ones that we love and are far away will never be truly gone. They are always with us."

As the audience listened, many were remembering people that they loved and were gone. Moana touched her necklace, Carl Fredrickson fiddled with his wedding ring, Hiro stared ahead.

The clock struck five, its chimes echoing throughout the plaza.

"And now, we welcome the Rivera family into the Disney family."

"Ladies and gentlemen," Mickey, along with the others, stepped back to bring the gates into view. "It is time! The gates are opening!"

The whole crowd roared into cheers as, with a faint creak, the gates slowly swung out, opening.

Originally, this was going to be a one-shot. But it is going to be something of a short story with chapters.

So, in case you haven't guessed, I'm in love with the movie Coco. Yeah, I know, not a big shocker. I've been wanting a crossover like this so I made this. Please forgive me if I made some characters a bit OOC. I'm not use to writing about so many characters all at once. If you want to see more, then you gotta leave reviews. Reviews motivate me. Be they good, bad, very critical, or even if you want to share some ideas or suggestions, I welcome them all. Please leave a comment.

Special thanks to Greymon Leader Batx Flashpoint for all your help:)

If there are any special character interactions you want to see, PM or review it to me;)
