Though they were stargazing, Alec's eyes were so bright that they outshone all the stars, so he instead fixated his gaze on his lover in awe. He didn't know how many more nights he'd have to look at Alec; the stars were not going anywhere.
Alec's weak body was supported by the arms of Magnus, and soon he started to shiver even under the blankets and Magnus decided it was time to head home. He scooped Alec up and held the Shadowhunter's frail self to his chest, and Alec smiled and wrapped his arm around Magnus's neck.
At home, Magnus helped Alec out of his clothes and lead him into the shower. His back was littered with small bruises where the lack of cushion between his skin and his spine decided to paint his body blue. Magnus ran his fingers over Alec's back and Alec sighed.
"Can you stand by yourself for a second?" Magnus asked. Alec nodded, and so Magnus let go and stripped himself. He climbed in next to Alec and rubbed shampoo into his hair. He wished he could do the same for Alec, but his hair had long ago fallen out.
Magnus set Alec on the bed, and hooked him up to the hyperalimentation IV bag besides the bed. There was nothing beautiful about cancer. This wasn't a chapter out of The Fault in Our Stars. This was their life now.
