Javelin The Feared
Chapter one
Winter gripped the land like a cold claw as one single stirred in the winter snow. It was a passing blizzard that had come from the north into Mossflower Wood.
The creature, a badger, had been roaming the wood for days, and still had no idea where to go. The worst party over all, is that she is bearing pups that will be born soon.
She must find shelter, or she or her pups will never survive the harsh winter. Nevertheless, she pushed onward, trying to fight the hunger that has built up since she hasn't ate since the beginning of this blizzard.
Just when she thought all hope was lost, the badger saw an outline in the trees. It looked like a building of some sort, an abbey. Is this the place my brother told me of? She thought, and not waiting around to find out, she used a last burst of energy that sped her towards it.
Upon reaching it, she saw a gatehouse in front of her. Seeing a shaft of candlelight coming from a small window. Banging on the gates desperately, she thought nobody would come. The she heard a voice.
"Who goes there, and why are you here?" It commanded from atop the roof. Looking up the she-badger saw the outline of and otter with two mice at his side.
"Help me, please, help me!" She cried from the gates. "I am bearing pups that will be born soon and I need shelter," The badger explained, her voice cracked from where she had not talked for so long.
Suddenly realizing it was a badger maid, Deresel the otter quickly climbed down the ladder on the other side of the wall and knocked on the gatehouse door.
Bonk Bonk Bonk! "Brother Herald, open the gate please! We have a badger maid outside bearing pups!" The muffled voice of the otter said through the door. Brother Herald had already heard the badger out there and quickly opened the gate.
Coming out to see the badger, the old mouse said, "Well my my, Welcome to Redwall Abbey miss!" Guiding the badger through the gates, he led her inside to the cavern hole, where it was already really busy.
Not saying a word, she gazed, astonished by her surroundings. The big badger was led through another set of big doors to the Great Hall, where her eyes suddenly fell on a tapestry with a mouse… no, a warrior mouse upon it.
Brother Herald met her gaze and smiled, "Right this way my lady, right this way." Guiding her through a set of hallways and corridors now, they stopped at an elegant door with a pretty sign that said "Abbot Drayfer" on it.
Knocking on the door, he stepped back and waited a moment, before an old mouse opened the door with a pair of spectacles on his nose. Seeing the badger and her swollen belly, the abbot mouse quickly let her in.
"You may go back to the gatehouse now Brother." With a smile, he closed the door as the mouse went back to his place. Turning to the badger, who was standing in the middle of the room, he said in a polite voice," Please, take a seat."
When the badger sat, Drayfus asked her, "Know what is your name my dear?" Taking a sip from his teacup, he watched as the she badger spoke.
"My name… Is Palla"
