~The looking-glass~

She had at first, seemed quite pleased with the looking-glass to which the Captain of her guard had ordered specifically made for her in the Venetian Capital. A slim plate of glass to its concave, black painted back reflected the image of her countenance so wonderfully realistic, it fast became her treasured possession.

He was glad of it.

Many mirrors had passed beneath the intense scrutiny of such a person as she, the Princess of Hueco Mundo, sole heir to the throne of Las Noches. But none had captured, nor rendered her likeness perfectly in the wavy, spotted hand mirrors others applied for her use. His men or he tossed one after the other, traveling men such as this bodily from the Palace grounds. Each with their own thoughts in confusion as to why their wares hadn't met with the approval of the princess's fair hand.

She would always lift these articles to her face with every intention of viewing her face reflected back to her when she'd pause, turn smiling a coy, yet sweet smile to her silent guard. The closest, nearest her golden chair would they always find him, awaiting her command. Solemn, his expression would be, deep gravity and abrupt seriousness his character. The princess might then, catch his image with the slightest turning of her wrist and then might she peer into the reflected countenance of her most loyal servant.

He never supposed, nor they, there she may see a difference, a certain change or reveal shown by the innocuous object held in her pale hands. Moments may pass and her lips turn down in a slight frown, "this will not do!" she might cry, startling all gathered whom in their assumption of her minute praise of the object, her interest in it. No one the least surprised but he.

He alone may know the singular favoritism shown by the princess for the one object to be excluded in the gathering of her wedding trousseau. For it would not be wise to arouse the jealous emotions of one Prince Ichigo, the princess's betrothed. Soon in seven-and twenty days the long planned joining of the neighboring kingdoms shall be brought to fruition. Seireitei will have their queen, while Hueco Mundo shall have their king. All will be well and ruled in splendor, rejoices of the many subjects would resound into the days following, save for one man's cry.

His alone would not be heard.

Only that of shattering glass as that in place of a heart given; foolish men do not know. How could they? When he that served so faithfully at his princess's side, could not utter one word of joy for the loss of her? A night did not fall without his lament for the happiness to befall the kingdom; his heart lay in her hands even now.

As she did call to him in vain, while her scowling bridegroom waited impatiently yonder outside in the carriage. Two shards of concave glass were all that remained, a greater part of the existence lacking made the half-reflection of her face distort. For why would she cry such silent, weeping tears on such a joyous day?

AN: I'd say this is even weirder than Immortal butterfly. D: what do I expect after nearly finishing reading Pride and prejudice and zombies? *Giggles* so here's the explanation: Ulquiorra in a sense gave her his heart in the form of the mirror, whenever she would look into it, she'd see his love for her. On the night of her wedding, he disappeared and only the broken, soulless pieces of the mirror were left behind. :) Sorry for the weirdness…ahem. Reviews are appreciated!
