Author's Notes: So yeah, this is my first fanfic. (~-_-)~ I was inspired by the song, Just Be Friends, and wrote this at one in the morning. XDD Anyway, please review!
"It's time to say goodbye," he said.
"W-what?" she asked, a shocked expression gracing her face, even though she expected this. The world felt like it was closing in on her. Her vision blurred while she felt her eyes water.
He sighed as he closed his eyes, contemplating on what to say next. He felt her hands tighten on his. His eyes opened; his face passive. His sad eyes locked with hers. She instantly turned away.
"All we gotta do is just be friends," he stated after a beat of silence.
She looked up. The way they were standing right now—facing each other, hands interlocked—reminded her of that one winter day. He had given her a ring. That act had made her cheeks warm up and she had smiled so much. She wasn't smiling now though and her tears were on the brink of falling.
He looked down at their hands and he began brushing his thumbs over her knuckles. He spoke up. "I don't regret what we had, just so you know." Had.
"…I don't either," she replied, hesitantly. "But c-can't we fix this?"
Their eyes met again.
"You know as well as I do that we can't." He let go of her hands and they dropped on her sides limply. "It's broken beyond repair."
With those words, her tears fell, because she knew he spoke the truth.
