A few months had passed since their memories have been wiped out by the Order. Little by little the Order returned some of their memories in order for them to function in school as regular students or for Hamish, a regular professor.
One day, the Knights received a letter asking them to go to an unknown place for extra credits and ticket for wine exhibit fair for Hamish. They all arrived to none other than the Knights' den.
"Well, this is weird", Lilith muttered.
"Why say that?" Randall asked her.
"I feel like I am having déjà vu", she answered.
A few minutes later, the lights in the living room went on. A man wearing an expensive suit came in from the kitchen.
"Love what you've done with the place", the man greeted which confused them all.
"I am wondering about that extra credit because I really need that for my chemistry class that I am failing", Jack said.
The man smiled and shook his head. He then went to the bar and poured something in the glass.
"Pass it around", he said.
It confused them more but being an alcohol aficionado, Hamish took it as some sort of wine tasting portion of the night. He took the first sip and passed it to the others who followed his lead. It only took five minutes for the change to happen.
"Holy shit", Hamish muttered once all of their memories returned to them.
The Knights looked at the mysterious man in front of them who is watching the change in them with such fascination.
"Who are you?" Lilith asked.
The man did not answer. Instead, he turned to Hamish.
"His name is Oliver. He is our Alpha", he answered for him.
The Knights settled in the living room as Hamish made them a drink.
"They wiped out the basement even the hide lockers. They took it all", Randall said to everyone.
"I can't believe I actually trusted that bitch. I knew she's going to do something evil", Lilith exclaimed.
"You mean Vera Stone?" Oliver asked them and they all nodded.
"She's the Grand Magus now", Jack answered.
"I think you should be thanking her", Oliver said.
Everyone shot him a look.
"Why is that?" Hamish asked.
"Come on, you really think co-existence between the Order and the Knights of St. Christopher can happen? The fact that she worked with you was a big stretch for her. Vera is a loyal servant of the Order. She served it from the heart. She abides its laws and according to the law of the Order, if ever the Order's identity has been revealed to its enemies, especially us, they need to kill us…instant execution", Oliver said.
"But she didn't kill us", Randall muttered.
"No, she didn't. She found a run around to keep you alive so instead, she just seized back all the books and artifacts that belonged to them and powder dust all of you. I think that's merciful of her considering she can do so much worse and I know she can do so much worse. Believe me", Oliver explained.
They all took time to digest what he just said. They know he has a point.
"Well, I'll be damned", Lilith muttered.
"I think we should send her some flowers or something", Randall suggested.
"Yes, after she returned our hide lockers. Those don't belong to the Order", Hamish said.
Oliver clapped his hands.
"This chapter is truly a standout. Nicely done!" he exclaimed.
Meanwhile, Vera and Alyssa are inside the temple practicing magic in the hall.
"Now, say the incantation", Vera said to the young Magistrate.
Alyssa uttered the Latin incantation and the water inside a large bowl glowed.
"It worked", she said in excitement.
"Well done, Miss Drake. Now, you can quit on spying on them in person", Vera said and it surprised Alyssa. "Yes, I know what you've been doing and it's risky. I broke our law to protect them and if their memories returned, it will be all for nothing. They will be coming for us and there will be nothing that I can do to keep them alive anymore", she added.
"I understand, Grand Magus", Alyssa said.
"Wow, you really are the Grand Magus now! Who would've thought you have it in you to climb up? I thought you are not into this kind of stuff", Oliver suddenly interrupted from the door.
Alyssa looked at him with question mark on her face while Vera just got frozen to the spot where she was standing on.
"I'm sorry, who are you?" Alyssa asked the stranger.
"Oh, it's fine. I'm an old friend of the Order. Isn't that right, Vera?" he answered.
Vera took a deep sigh and turned around.
"Old friend is quite strong and to be clear I did not want to be appointed as the Grand Magus. I have no choice", she said.
"I know that. You're not one for ambition. Aren't you going to introduce me to your disciple or you want me to do it for you?" Oliver asked the Grand Magus.
"No, thank you. I can do it myself. This is Alyssa Drake. Miss Drake, meet Oliver Stone", Vera introduced them to each other but Alyssa got stuck on something.
"Stone? Are you related?" she asked.
Oliver and Vera looked at each other waiting on whose going to answer her question.
"He is my husband", Vera finally answered.
Alyssa kept her mouth shut to stop herself from asking more question to the Grand Magus.
"This is the part where you leave, Miss Drake", Vera then said.
"Yes, Magus", Alyssa politely said and then leave.
Silence filled the room as they wait for her to leave the temple. Once she's gone, none of them knows how to break the ice. Vera broke off the staring contest and turned her back on him.
"That was a neat trick wiping out the Knights' memories", Oliver started.
"I supposed you already reversed it", Vera said without turning back on him.
She then waved her hand on the water in the bowl and it stopped glowing.
"Don't worry. I explained to them your reason why you did what you did and they understood that", Oliver explained.
Vera turned to him.
"…but that's not all", she continued.
"They want their hide lockers back. You must admit those are not your properties", Oliver added.
Vera scoffed and waved her hand to open the door to her office. She quickly walked towards it followed by Oliver.
"Tell me, what will be my next move?" she asked her estranged husband.
"You're not going to return it to prevent the creation of more Knights", he answered and she nodded.
Vera poured some drinks on two glasses and handed one to Oliver.
"Thank you", he said.
She then walked towards her chair and sat down. Oliver watches her every move carefully.
"It suits you well, being the Grand Magus and all", Oliver commented.
"I don't know about that. I just do what is the best I can at the moment. Is that all why you came here for? The lockers?" Vera asked.
Oliver shook his head and put his drink on her table.
"No, I felt it, Vera. I was in Paris and I felt it all the way there. It's coming here and you will need all the help you can get. That's why I came back", he answered.
Vera went silent. She knows exactly what he's talking about.
"That was a myth, Oliver. According to that myth, that will happen after 200 years. Guess what? It's been 215 years and nothing happened. I admit I thought it was Edward's attempt to bond with the Vade Maecum but we stopped it so clearly it's all just a myth", she explained.
Oliver looked like he disagreed with what she said.
"I spent years of my life trying to find a way to stop it when it happens. I know it's real. Somewhere in that cold heart of yours knows that too", he insisted.
Vera leaned back to her chair and put her glass down.
"I know. After everything we've been through, you just took off to chase some rogue mission and left me", she muttered.
"…and you went on to chase the last two portions of the Vade Maecum which you gave willingly to Coventry. Why?" he asked.
"He said he wanted to cure his son from his allergy to peanuts", she said directly without a pause.
Oliver halted. They looked at each other for a brief moment before Vera let out a small smile. She was talking about their daughter dying due to anaphylactic shock.
"Keep your eyes open, Vera. It is going to happen whether you want to acknowledge it or not. I am here to help. The Knights and I are here to help", Oliver said and then turned around to leave.
"If I will make you choose between them and the Order, would you choose the Order?" Vera suddenly asked him before he reaches the door. Oliver stopped walking and turned around.
"Even if I can choose there's no way I can left the Knights without dying. You know that", he said.
"Jack Morton was able to survive when they pulled his hide from his body. Would you choose us?" she asked again.
This time, Oliver took time to answer her question.
"I wouldn't choose between the Order and the Knights", he said and it made Vera's face turned hard. "…but I will always choose you…not them", he added and then left.
Alyssa went back to the campus to resume her life as a regular student when Jack suddenly pulled her to the side. She looked stiff and in shock when she saw his face.
"Hey, I missed you", Jack greeted.
Alyssa frowned.
"How?" she asked.
"Our Alpha returned our memories back. Don't worry. We know why you and the Order did it. We are grateful that you erased our memories instead of killing us", he answered.
Alyssa suddenly remembered what Vera just said to her. Now, that their memories are restored. She can no longer protect them if they ever tried to kill another member of the Order.
"Listen to me. Just because the Grand Magus broke the law for you doesn't mean she will do it again. You all need to lay low and try to stay away as possible from the Order", she warned.
"Is that a threat? You know we can handle them", Jack said.
"You're not getting me. The Grand Magus wants you all to live and continue to be regular students with normal lives. Now, you have your memories back which mean you all have your memories about the Order, who we are, what we do. You know too much and I know you will not stop trying to interfere with the Order and if that happens, the Grand Magus will no longer be lenient with all of you and I can't protect you or your friends. Lay low, Jack. Consider this your first and last warning", Alyssa explained.
