Just a quick, random little late night story I thought up. And I'm still working on Alone in the World but I thought I'd type this up and post it before I lose the idea. So please read and review and let me know what you think.

Cubes

I growled in frustration as the sea of rainbow squares caused my blood pressure to rise. I had been sitting on the roof of our safe house for hours trying to solve this blasted cube and it always ended the same way; in failure. I pushed my glasses further up on my nose and I kept twisting the different section of the Rubix Cube in an attempt to solve the confounded puzzle. I twisted section after section trying to get at least one section one solid color but every time I would, I turn it and there would be orange in my blue! I groaned loudly and set the cube down and simply stared at it. I was ready to pull my hair out because of this puzzle and wanted nothing more to do than to give up. But I wouldn't be crushed that easily, I would defeat the puzzle. I sat Indian style on the roof, rested my elbows on my legs, and eventually huffed and rested my chin on my fists as I looked over the little colored cubes. Reds, blues, whites, and yellows, all these colors were driving me completely insane. I looked up briefly when I heard the scuffling of feet come closer to the roof and I could only assume it was either Sly or Murray. I shook the thought from my head and continued to stare at the cube in front of me.

"Hey Bentley," I heard a voice behind me. I recognized the voice as Ramona's and I turned to look at her, "Watcha doin'?" her voice was child like and innocent. She stopped a few inches from me, placed her paws behind her back, and rocked slowly from her heels to her toes and back. I raised an eyebrow at the raccoon and had the feeling she was up to something devious.

"Trying to solve this stupid Rubix cube." I held it up to show her and she nodded. She gently took the cube from my hands and looked it over.

"Oh," she mumbled, "I bet you thirty bucks I can solve this." The false innocence went away from her voice and her usual devious tone returned. I smirked at her proposition and accepted it. She started twisting and turning the cube in various ways in an attempt to solve it. I knew she couldn't do it. I was smarter than her by a mile and even I couldn't solve it. She'd give up eventually and I'd prove my intelligence. Sure, the cube wouldn't be solved but I would be thirty dollars richer. I kept smirking and looked out at the city while the raccoon tried to solve the puzzle.

"Solved it." She said after a few minutes. My head snapped in her direction and she tossed me the cube. I looked over it with wide eyes and couldn't deny the fact that it was solved. All six sides was a solid color and there wasn't a cube out of place. I looked up and the smirking female with a look of disbelief.

"How did you solve it?" she shook her head and held out her paw.

"Pay me first, and then we'll talk." I sighed and tossed the cube on the ground. I grumbled to myself as I pulled out my wallet, took out thirty dollars, and handed it to Ramona. She smiled and took the money from my hand. I watched as she shoved the money in her pocket and turned back to me.

"How did you solve it?" I repeated. Her smile got wider and she turned to leave. But before the left, the looked back over her shoulder to me.

"I read the cheat sheet they put in the box." She smiled again and strolled away. I felt my face drop and I groaned as I slammed my palm against my face when I realized I had just been scammed by a fellow thief.
