It was a beautiful day, Roy concluded as he drove home from work, absolutely gorgeous. The leaves on the trees had just sprouted and the flowers had just begun to bloom. The sun shone and glittered on the puddles formed by last nights shower. And at long last, it was now warm enough to deem the weather as "hot."
Roy flicked on his right turn signal and turned into his neighborhood. In one yard, children ran through the sprinklers shrieking and squealing with delight. In another, the children sat on the driveway drawing out in chalk whatever came to their imaginations. Roy smiled slightly as he watched the children; maybe some day he and Ed would have some of their own.
Suddenly an idea popped into his head. He would take Ed out! It was just too beautiful of a day to miss. A sliver of a smile crossed Roy's face as he began to think of his brilliant plans. First, he would take Ed out to dinner. Then they would take a walk in the park and watch the sun set together. Maybe after that, he could take Ed to the field to watch the weekly fireworks.
But as he spotted his house, Roy's smile vanished. Something was wrong. For one, Ed was not outside waiting for him as usual. Number two reason was that his corner of the neighborhood was eerily quiet…Deadly quiet.
Roy pulled into his driveway and stepped out of his car. Still no Ed. Roy frowned. Sensing, by now, that something was utterly and terribly wrong, Roy bounded up the steps to his home and flung open the door. Just as he was about to call Ed's name, he spotted the young man just inside the door. Roy sighed with relief and was about to greet Ed when he spotted the look on Ed's face. He looked like a trapped rat. Not good. Now Roy was suspicious. What was going on? Just then, Roy spotted something in Ed's hands, but before he could ask what it was, Ed quickly hid them behind his back. Not quickly enough, though, for Roy managed to see that it was small, white, and had a red marking on the back of it. Roy's back up alchemy glove. Roy froze. Now, he smelled smoke. Why did Ed have his alchemy glove, and why did his house smell like smoke? Oooh no, nononononononono. Slowly and deliberately Roy leaned over and glanced past Ed. Half his house had been incinerated. He could see the smoke coming off the charred, yet still standing, remains of the other half of his house. Roy tore his eyes off the wreckage and looked at Ed, who by now looked rather sheepish.
"I didn't try to burn down the house." Ed protested in a rather small voice.
Roy raised his eyebrows, "Well, from the looks of it, you didn't try not to." He replied calmly.
A rather deadly silence ensued. Then Ed laughed nervously and scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
"Oops" he said.
Roy sighed. There went his beautiful day.
:) Hope you enjoyed it! Please review!
