Disclaimer: I do Not own Maleficent or any of its characters they are the property of Disney.
Hi there, I recently had a bit of a Maleficent kick (meaning I watched the movie three or four time and read the book for the movie all in the same week oh, and I haven't listened to any music but the soundtrack for the movie.) Yeah, for some reason I just want a little crazy. Anyway, I love Diaval he is a great character and does such a great job at keeping an eye on Maleficent I wish that I could have a friend as loyal one day and (most important part) who could transform at my will (key word here people) so that I could have any pet I wanted in the world (cheetah, dragon, flying horse=)
You probably won't read this far but incase your really cool and give it a go this is a one shot set before Aurora turns sixteen. I hope you enjoy.
(Just a side note this could be seen as either a friendship or something a little more I think it could work both ways:)
Yes, Mistress.
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! —Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
The Moors were quiet and sleepy as the evening light turned everything from beautiful to breathtaking. A gentle mist hung over the land, the evening light turning an enchanting shade of orange. An all to familiar cry of a certain raven found its way to Maleficent's ears. Walking the boundaries of the Moors, Maleficent flickered her magic and the raven became a man.
"Mistress," Diaval said walking fast to catch up to her, still a little clumsy even after all these years, "I have been looking for you."
Not slowing her pace Maleficent snapped, "Diaval did it not ever appear to you that I wasn't in the mood to be found."
"I didn't mean," he paused for lack of better words, "Mistress, I wanted to make sure you were alright. I saw the archer—"
Maleficent stopped and spun around to meet Diaval's eyes her gaze penetrating, "It is no concern of yours as to if I am alright or not." If Diaval had been anyone else he would have been afraid. Afraid of her dark tone, and green flame like magic that twisted its way around the top of her staff, or of the regal way she stood. But, he was Diaval. He had been by her side for a great many years and he was not afraid of her. Not ever.
So, locking eye's with his Mistress unfazed by her deadly gaze he said, "I'v been at your side for many years and I don't plan on being scared away when you look at me with that piercing stare of yours. Wether your injured or not is every bit of my business to know." his voice deeper, harsher then normal. "Mistress." He added his eye's never wavered and for a brief second of a second he could have sworn her's had. For a moment they stood in the evening sun and the darkening forest, their eye's locked both unwilling to break contact first.
The screech of an eagle made them pull their eyes away from each other. The eagle flew past them with wings bigger then Maleficent had seen on any creature for a very long time. Gold light from the sun made the majestic creature look like something from a dream. Looking away Maleficent strode off leaving Diaval, not bothering to change his form from man to raven. He had seen the hidden longing-full pain in her eye's for her lost wings she so dearly missed, and the slightly deeper breath she took at the thought of flying once more. She was a broken girl with to much pride to ask for help. Sighing in frustration Diaval fallowed close behind, he watched as she walked ahead her gait wavering unwillingly every so often. She was wounded and Diaval knew better then to leave her.
"To much darn pride!" He muttered to himself as his Mistress leaned more then she had in a long time on her staff. Pretending not to hear him she straitened her shoulders and held her head higher. Watching his Mistress start to struggle more and more as they walked further along the boarder Diaval caught her arm to stop her going any further. She flinched away from his touch, a movement that hurt his kind heart. "Mistress, please let me have a look." his voice full of concern, his eye's kind.
Stiffing a breath Maleficent looked down the path along the thorn wall she was walking, the sun reaching the point of no return and the sky turning from day to night. The last of the sun rays danced through the forest trees and the thorn wall its self seemed to shift ever so slightly with the evening breeze.
"Diaval as I said before. It is no concern of yours." Lifting her hand to flick some magic and transform Diaval a sudden amount of pain shot through Maleficent starting at her side. Her hand jumped up to catch Diaval's shoulder for support. He held her up concern flashing across his face, "Mistress, Please." He begged.
Ignoring him once again she tried to stand on her own only to find that Diaval's gentle arms around her was the only thing keeping her from falling.
Sighing begrudgingly she glanced at him,"very well Diaval."
Relief hit him as he carefully helped her to the ground. The world around them was still and very quiet in the last moments before the night. Diaval knelt down beside his Mistress and gently removed her hand from her side. A hand that was shaking ever so slightly. Having had to defend the border the night before Maleficent had taken on arrow to her side and the head of the arrow hadn't yet been pulled out! "Mistress," Diaval breathed barely above a whisper.
"I can't get it out." Was all she said, her pain becoming more evident. Breathing hard at the idea Diaval pressed a tender hand to his Maleficent's shoulder his other finding the arrow head. It had to come out in order for his Mistress' magic to start its work at healing, the metal from the arrow was burning deep into her side. Leaving harsh burn marks along the edges.
Seeing the pain in his Mistress' eye's Diaval asked, "ready?" Not wavering her regal composure she responded, "Just do it Diaval or you really will be a mealy warm."
Shaking his head against what he was about to do Diaval pulled the arrow in one quick yank! Having barbs along both sides, the arrow head ripped through Maleficent's flesh. She tried but couldn't suppress the cry from pain that escaped her lips.
"Easy Mistress." Diaval breathed gently, as he held pressure to her bleeding wound, waiting for her magic to take affect. The pain from her wounds and the exhaustion from the battle and no sleep from the night before washed over Maleficent all at once. Not able to fight it any longer she became terribly weak and fell against Diaval's shoulder. He held her close his watch-full raven eye's scanning the forest for any who dare come near. It took some time and the sky above was dark and full of stars when Maleficent magic was strong enough to start working to heal her painful wound.
"Thats it Mistress," Diaval spoke softly, Maleficent shivered slightly from the cold air and pain that filled her but slowly her magic started healing her bleeding side. The green flames twisting and weaving around his Mistress who lie against his shoulder, the magic illuminating them both. Just as the magic was finishing and beginning to fade away, green flames found their way to Diaval's caller bone where there was a deep knife wound that he had been ignoring until now, the magic soothing the painful sting and healing him, leaving only the faintest of scars. He found himself smiling at his Mistress as he waited for her to become strong enough to stand again. When she was finally strong enough Diaval stood close by his protectiveness for Maleficent never leaving him even at the sight of her seemingly fully healed side.
The next morning Maleficent called Diaval from the skies where he had been scouting the wall.
"Yes Mistress," he asked once she transformed him. Standing on a small cliff that over looked the Moors Maleficent looked at Diaval her eye's hard.
"If you ever decide its your business to know of my well being again," She paused letting her words settle in, her eye's softened, "Then make sure it not were other's can see." For a moment Diaval was puzzled.
Looking back to the Moors Maleficent added, "I don't want every one running up asking how I'm doing." Not helping the up turn of his lips Diaval tilted his head,
"Yes, Mistress."
The end.
