Reflections: Fight Song

A/N: Yep so this is my attempt at a series about the Sailor Senshi and their lives as well as some of the lives of their enemies. The conclusion of this series I'm still contemplating that. However as far as this story goes I thought that I would start off with Makoto's story. I also thought that Fight Song by Rachel Platten seemed really fitting to the story as well. Believe me I listened to several songs before I figured out that this one would fit the story best. I'm really good like that. I hope this story turns out well and that it'll be well received among all of you I worked hard to make it the best I could.

Also my disclaimer would be that I absolutely do not own Sailor Moon however I am a huge fan and bought all of the redubs of the original sailor moon anime which make it the anime it always should've been. Also I do not own the Fight Song by Rachel Platten. I was just inspired to use it for the story. Songs always inspire stories to role-plays or stories to fanfics for me. I hope you all enjoy and please do be kind.

Makoto Kino had grown into a very beautiful adult woman, she still always kept her long brown hair in a ponytail. It seem to have become a trademark of sorts. Men fawned over her just like they did with her friends but she didn't have much luck in relationships even though she tried. Makoto honestly preferred being single at times being free to do whatever she pleased. She had even successfully opened two businesses in the business district of Crystal Tokyo. Makoto opened a hybrid flower shop/bakery which was the first of its kind, when high school ended Mako hadn't been able to decide which to open. Her dreams were further delayed when the big battle between good and evil happened that ended up forming Crystal Tokyo and making Usagi Tsukino become Neo Queen Serenity. It had been a long battle but the dust cleared and Tokyo was saved and rose from the ashes thanks to the Queen and the other guardians. Years later it eventually became Crystal Tokyo, the future they had all seen in the past so many years ago.

When things settled down everyone was starting to find their niche and find their place. Mako had not been able to find her place and what she wanted. Makoto and her friends would always be Sailor Guardians and protect the Queen she knew that for sure. However outside of being a Sailor Guardian she had no clue what she wanted. The Crystal Palace was a huge place and Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion had made sure that each of the Sailor Guardians got their own

wing in the Crystal Palace. Neo Queen Serenity considered them not just her closest friends but family and because of that, she wanted them to live in the palace with them, making sure they each had their own space. Each are was designed to fit their personality and their liking. They each had a hand in the design process.

Once the palace and everything else was built, Usagi had settled in with Mamoru as husband and wife and also King and Queen. Ami went onto medical school and after medical school decided to study science. Now she was mostly a doctor but she had a hand in helping develop Crystal Tokyo's biggest research lab. Which Dr. Suichi Tomoe ran. Dr. Tomoe of course had no memories of death busters or anything, it wasn't his fault that he had been taken control of like that. So based on that the King and Queen were willing to give him a second chance. Of course Hotaru had been reborn and was also a Sailor Guardian. It was thanks to Usagi that Hotaru had

been reborn. Hotaru and Chibi Usa were the best of friends and went to school together.

Minako became an idol just like she wanted to, she was not only a model but she was also one half of a singing duo that she had formed with Rei calling themselves Guardian Girls. Rei wrote some songs and Minako wrote some songs as well. Aside from being apart of a famous singing duo, Rei had also become the priestess of Hikawa Shrine. Haruka and Michiru ended up bonding much closer their relationship was always strong. Plus all of their experiences caused them to fall even deeper in love with each other.

With this in mind, Haruka and Michiru eventually wed. Their dreams too had come true it seemed. Haruka became a famous motocross racer and race car driver. Haruka always loved going fast it seemed. While Michiru become well known for her paintings and became a famous violinist as well. Last but not least was Setsuna, true she had committed a taboo to save Haruka and Michiru.

However despite this, Neo Queen Serenity decided not to punish her for it.

Instead Neo Queen Serenity awarded her for her bravery for putting herself at risk to save the lives of others. The Queen also allowed Setsuna to continue guarding the gates of time but with an added bonus. Setsuna would never have to be alone again because she was given the ability to come and go into Crystal Tokyo as she pleased. Plus Setsuna eventually figured out how to use the garnet orb to keep a close eye on the gates of time. Dr. Tomoe was currently trying to make a device to further help Setsuna in guarding the gates of time while coming into Crystal Tokyo once in awhile.

It seemed to Makoto like everyone had everything figured out but there was a time when Makoto became extremely depressed. She had lost sight of herself and felt alone. Holed up in her wing of the palace, she felt so lost wondering what to do and where she would eventually find herself. Everyone was so surprised by Makoto's actions because she was always so happy, always cheerful. She wanted to help people and make them happy. Makoto would always be found in the kitchen cooking something or she could also be found in the garden. Tending to plants. For Usagi's wedding, Usagi hadn't even needed to pay for flowers because Makoto made all the beautiful flower decorations for her. Makoto had put her heart and soul into it. She even added some flowers to Usagi's veil and a few stray ones in her hair.

It had been a truly beautiful wedding day. So it was a surprise to see such a sweet hearted Makoto fall and be so broken. That night King Endymion had encouraged Neo Queen Serenity to go help her broken friend. However Chibi Usa was so little then, just a baby that Serenity didn't want to leave her child like that. Endymion told her not to worry and that he could handle taking care of Chibi Usa. It had turned into a small argument nothing big just the Queen being stubborn as usual. "Usako…stop" Endymion said as he sighed towards the end of the fight.

"Okay…I'm sorry you're right. I love you Mamo." Serenity said as she gave him a kiss. Then she gave Chibi Usa a small kiss on the forehead as she left and made her way towards Makoto's wing of the Crystal Palace. Serenity had contacted the other girls via their communicators. Makoto was laying in bed staring at the ceiling unsure of herself untilher friends burst through the door. Serenity was so loud it scared Mako and caused her to fall off the bed. Mako gave a weak smile. It didn't matter if she was a Queen or not because it would always be the same old Usagi no matter what.

Everyone spoke with Makoto who expressed why she was unhappy. It was because didn't know where to land. Much toher surprise Neo Queen Serenity looked at her seriously. "Mako-Chan you're a beautiful woman with a pure heart and I know you'll find where you belong." Neo Queen Serenity told her seriously before reverting for just a moment back into that Usagi mode with a big grin on her face.

"Besides you make the best sweets ever! You should open a bakery!" She said while Rei glared at Serenity. "Dumpling head! She SAID she wanted to open a flower shop!" Rei old Rei and Usagi, close dear friends yet they would always argue over the silliest things. "Well MAAAYBE she wants to open a bakery to feed her Queen! REI!" Serenity said sharply while Rei retorted. "Aren't you fat enough? You keepbitching about baby weight but I think you're just fat! Usagi!" Rei said snickering slightly.

"WAAAAA! Why are you so mean to me Rei?! I just had a baby! I thought you were my friend! WAAAA!" Serenity sobbed. "Oh stop it dumpling head I didn't mean it!" Rei snapped starting to feel bad and then hugged it out with her. This caused Makoto's smile to grow slightly and then

Rei and Neo Queen Serenity patched things up. That was until during their hug Serenity slipped and fell and took Rei down with her. Rei started arguing with her and the two were both sticking their tongues out at each other just like when they were younger again. This caused Makoto to start laughing so hard, it felt so good because Makoto had felt like she hadn't laughed in so long. "Mako! ITS NOT FUNNY! REI IS BEING MEAN TO ME!" Serenity snapped slightly while Rei rolled her eyes. "Come on." Rei said standing up and holding her hand out helping Serenity up.

They along with Ami, Minako, Setsuna smiled as they watched Makoto being happy. Haruka was currently on the racing circuit and Michiru was currently cheering they would be home the next

day and promised to visit Makoto and apologized to her via communicator. Makoto told them it was fine they didn't have to feel bad. Makoto felt better and that's when she decided what she wanted to do. She was going to open a shop that was a flower shop and also a bakery. That's when everything started looking for Makoto and she finally found what she wanted to do. Eudial another ex villain who had survived her fall ended up being forgiven by the queen and reformed

herself. Eudial was intelligent and worthy enough to work in the lab, though they still kept a close eye on her.

Eudial found the device that Mimet had trapped herself in under some rubble. After much begging and pleading Eudial released Mimet who admitted she didn't really fit in with death busters to begin with. Mimet hadn't aged a day since she trapped herself within that device. That also meant that Mimet was still high school age and so she went to high school and got a part time job

working for Makoto. Although at first Makoto had to teach her how to cook and such and it eventually worked out. Eudial still hated Mimet but they eventually patched it up and became friends. Though their friendship was pretty similar to that of Neo Queen Serenity and Rei.

Now as Makoto was working on and decorating a huge cake for Neo Queen Serenity's birthday. There was going to be a big surprise birthday part for Serenity. Makoto couldn't help but smile at how lucky she was to have such good friends, they were her only family. The only family that she needed which proved you didn't need blood to have family.

This is when the bad memories came flooding back to her. Memories of her childhood. Those memories didn't haunt her often but sometimes they would come back to her. Makoto's smile faded slightly as she remembered her childhood going from good too bad so quickly.

How had it all escalated to that point?

The memories flooded back to Makoto in full force as she decorated that cake. Makoto was a sweet little girl. Her mother Mei Kino loved her so much and always told her to be true to herself. Makoto had been an only child but that didn't stop her parents from adoring her. Her mother more so than her father it seemed. She was so young that she only half remembered hearing her parents argue at times but the rest were blocked out. That morning was very vivid a five year old Makoto heading off to kindergarten.

"Bye mama!" Makoto said as she waved at her mother Mei. "Goodbye my sweet little Mako I love you! Have fun at school!" Mei exclaimed as she waved cheerfully to her daughter. Between her mother and her father working sometimes Makoto was left in the care of her 18 year old babysitter Kasumi. There were two people that Makoto honestly idolized at that age and it was her mother

Mei and also Kasumi. "Come on Mako hold my hand."Kasumi said as Makoto took Kasumi's hand as they walked down the street. It seemed like a normal day. Only that was one the day when everything in Makoto's life would take a change for the worse.

At that time when she was a small child, Makoto lived in a house with her mom and dad in a suburb outside of Tokyo. It was beautiful house with a beautiful garden and flower bed that little Makoto had helped her mother Mei plant. Makoto's mother Mei ran a hair salon while her father worked as a business man. He always seemed busy and at that time Makoto really had no idea just what her father did. Mako's father never mentioned any of his business deals. He always seemed to use the term working in business very loosely and vaguely. It would only be later on in life that Makoto would find out what her father really did for a living.

"Sumi-Chan?" Makoto asked, she could never pronounce Kasumi and so she just called her Sumi for short. "Yes Mako?" Kasumi asked as she looked down at the child while also paying attention to the road. "Does my daddy still love my mommy?" Makoto asked, curious of what the answer would be. For some reason Kasumi hesitated for a moment and it was strange how

she hesitated. It would seem like she didn't know how to answer the child but in hindsight there was a deeper reason for it. "Well, its like how sometimes you argue with your friends right? Not everyone agrees on everything." Kasumi said and eventually they made it to Makoto's school and Makoto hugged Kasumi. "Bye Sumi! Be right here?" Makoto asked her and Kasumi smiled slightly.

"Yes, I'll always be right here. Have a good day at school!" Kasumi told her with a smile. "You too Sumi!" Makoto said as she ran intothe school yard. Kasumi was a college student. She did nanny work and babysitting work for extra money.

Kasumi came from a richfamily so really she was mostly just a spoiled little bitch. Eventually Kasumi would show her true colors and that would forever change Makoto's view of Kasumi forever.

After school Makoto was waiting outside for Kasumi just like always except this time Kasumi wasn't waiting for her. Little Makoto had been waiting for what seemed like a long time. All of her classmates had already gone home, she was the last one waiting outside. Makoto peeked around again and saw Kasumi running around a corner carrying her books. Kasumi came to a stop and panted slightly catching her breath. "I'm so sorry I'm late Mako, my class ran late." Kasumi told her once she had managed to catch her breath. "Its okay Sumi, I was just getting sad like you forgot about me." Makoto said as she stood up and Kasumi shook her head. "No I would never do that to you." Kasumi said as Makoto looked at a small red dot on Kasumi's shirt. "Sumi what's that on your shirt?" Makoto asked as Kasumi looked down and quickly wiped it. "Oh man, I spilt some ketchup on myself at lunch. It's okay it won't stain though. Lets go home." Kasumi said and Makoto took Kasumi's hand. Everything seemed normal as they headed back to Makoto's home.

When they got closer to the house the saw police cars outside and police tape infront

of it. "Oh no." Kasumi said and picked up Makoto and walked over to the house. Kasumi tried getting in but the officer refused to allow her to do so. "Please officer!" Kasumi begged but they wouldn't budge.

Haru Kino who was Makoto's father came out of the house looking somber as he walked over to them. "Officer let them in, that's my daughter and her babysitter, it's okay." Haru said in a solemn tone. The officer let them pass. "Mr. Kino what's going on?" Kasumi asked as she set Makoto down. "Mako go play for a minute. Please?" Haru asked as Makoto went off to play but really unbeknownst to them she snuck into the house. Makoto was curious as to what the adults were keeping from them. The sight that Makoto saw would be a memory that she would never forget. It was a memory that would stay with her for the rest of her life. Sometimes it would even be in her dreams. Five year old Makoto walked into the living room.

There was Mei sitting there, it looked like she was just sitting there at first. "Ma—" Makoto's words stopped as she instead emitted a horrible bloodcurdling scream was seeing half of her mother's head blown off. The shot gun still in her mother's hand. Mei had committed suicide. Haru heard his daughter scream and ran into the house. "MAKOTO!" He yelled out and instantly ran grabbing up the child and wrapping her in his arms. Turning her away from the sight.

Makoto was sobbing in her father's arms. "M-M-Mama…." she stammered as she sobbed shaking. "Mako…your mama was…" Haru stopped himself as he comforted his sobbing child rubbing her back in silence for a moment trying to think of how to phrase it. "Your mama was very sick and she…" Haru tried again, he kept starting and stopping but he didn't know how to properly explain to Makoto what happened to her mother. Makoto was so young. It was completely impossible to explain to his small child what he really did. Haru was never really a loving father but in this moment he cared especially after seeing his only daughter sobbing her eyes out.

It was going to be a hard road for them but Haru had a feeling things would work out in his favor at least.

It was a few days later after Mei's funeral, Haru had given Makoto some things to remind her of her mother. One of the things given to Makoto were Mei's beautiful rose earrings. Makoto remembered telling her father that she would never ever take her mama's beautiful earrings off. The other thing was a picture of Mei. However despite these things, Makoto was still having horrible nightmares about what she witnessed. Haru was a cold, cruel man some people pitied Mei and most blamed Haru for driving Mei to do this. It was also obvious to everyone just how much Mei did her best to shield Makoto from Haru. With Haru taking time off from his work Makoto was also slowly

learning just how horrible of a man her father was. Makoto was still having horrible nightmares and everytime she woke up and tried to crawl in bed to feel safe. Her father would harshly send her back to her bedroom. Makoto hadn't slept much. The other thing that was strange to Makoto was that Kasumi was spending the night at their house more and more.

Kasumi and Haru had been having an affair which had been going on even before Mei's suicide. That day after the funeral, there had been so much going on that Kasumi figured it was a good idea to finally tell Haru the news she had for him. "Haru dear…" Kasumi said as she walked into the kitchen and wrapped her arms around him lovingly. "Yes my love?" Haru said as he looked at Kasumi. "I'm pregnant, I just didn't want to tell you because of everything going on lately." Kasumi admitted. "YOU WHAT?!" Haru yelled out and shoved Kasumi off of him and to the ground. "You

little whore is it even mine?!" Haru snapped at her. Kasumi recoiled slightly. "-Y-Yes, look just because I'm apart of your crew doesn't mean I slept with anyone else but you!" Kasumi said. Haru held out his hand to her which she took, then he pulled Kasumi up and pulled her close to him holding a knife to her neck. "If I find out otherwise, just remember what we did to Mei." Haru said in a cold harsh tone warning Kasumi as he let her go.

Haru walked out of the room to answer the ringing phone, the truth was that Haru was a business man but he made many dirty business deals. Haru was very high up in the Yakuza and Kasumi had become apart of his crew. That's how he had met her. Mei was getting in his way and so Haru told Kasumi that if she really wanted to cement her fate and join his crew. Then he would help her make it look like Mei committed suicide. So that's what happened. Makoto would uncover the truth in later years but now at five years old things were changing soquickly and Makoto didn't really understand what was going on.

This was just the tip of the iceberg, Makoto had no clue just how drastically her life was about to change.

(A/N: Okay! I hope you guys like the beginning of this story, I stayed up til 1AM just working on the first chapter. I hope the beginning, middle and end didn't come out too sloppy. I'm thinking they didn't although I'm still very worried that they did. Although I could be wrong. I hope I didn't rush it too much. I tried not to rush it too much so that way I had some things to work on for the next chapter. I really wanted to explain the gist of things in this chapter and also how Makoto most likely got her rose earrings.

I came up with his back story on the basis that in the series Makoto lives alone yet she's a teenager. So I hope you guys enjoy and I hope this chapter came out well I did my best. Also I hope this chapter was long enough and not too short. Please be kind and stay tuned for the next chapter!)
