Inconsolable
The song is by Jonatha Brooks- Inconsolable
The storm whipped against the windows, pelting them with rain and snow. The foam began to fade, as the beer was swirled slowly around the glass.
"Drinking away your problems?" A female voice said from behind him. Turning around, Daniel stared at the red headed woman. He nodded sadly, and returned to his now foamless drink.
I never knew what enough was
Until I'd had more than my share
Then I let the darkness in
It was then I lost the dare
It was then I lost the day
"Can I buy you another?" Elizabeth asked kindly, sitting beside him on the empty stool. She ordered two more of the same, and Daniel watched as the replacements arrived. "He was you friend." It was more of a statement then an actual question. Everyone knew they were close. Him and Jack were like brothers. Each holding their own. But now he was gone, stuck in a hunk of ice, on another planet.
Yes, Jack O'Neill was his friend.
There will be no prayers on your return
And there will be no party thrown
And you will find your inheritance
Is the silence that's grown
It is the seed that you've sown
'Cause you were the one sure thing
The one sure thing
Maybe I'm not crazy, just inconsolable
Inconsolable
Swirling her own glass, Doctor Weir stayed in respectful silence.
"What are you doing here?" Daniel asked after a small while. Liz didn't look up.
"Apparently the same as you."
Daniel sighed. Everyone was affected by Jack.
Daniel sighed. Perhaps Jack reminded him of Shar'ae. Everyone he cared for, whether it be lovers like Shar'ae, or best friends like Jack, they we're leaving. One by one.
There is no mystery to be revealed
And so we tell the truth and then run
I love you because I love you
And I did think that you were the one
But now I see who you've become
'Cause you were the one sure thing
The one sure thing
Maybe I'm not crazy, just inconsolable
Inconsolable
"Shall we leave?" Elizabeth asked after her third silent beer. Daniel sighed, reaching for his wallet. Perhaps he would drop off in his apartment, clutching a half empty wine bottle, and worry about his hangover tomorrow. He could never handle that much alcohol.
"Sure." He said gruffly, leaving a tip and walking to the door. Elizabeth followed closely.
He hailed a cab and let the first one to Liz, she patted him on the shoulder, kissed him on the cheek and bid goodnight.
Goodnight.
Yeah right.
Daniel stared at his shoes in the apartment, trying to ignore his heart, grieving for his friend.
"I'm getting to old for this." Daniel shook himself out of his alcohol induced stupor and glanced for the source of this voice. "Damn these trees."
"Jack?" Daniel called at the familiar voice.
"Space-monkey! You made it!"
Beginning to freak-out, Daniel reached for his phone.
"Take care of them Daniel. Everything is going to be alright." And Daniel collapsed, soon to wake with no memory of the strange dream.
The end
