Plot: What happens when the news reaches Kairi?
Sora's dead. Sora's dead. He's not coming back. He's not coming home.
Blue eyes stared forward aimlessly as Tifa told the news.
"I'm so sorry." She said, but Kairi didn't hear her. Why should she? Sora, the boy she shared the paupou fruit with, the boy who raced Riku to see who - Kairi choked back tears. He can't be dead. She refused to believe he was dead. His blue eyes would never dull, never die.
He wouldn't leave her.
He had promised.
So he can't be dead. Kairi reasoned. Sora's never broken a promise before, so why should now be any different? He's probably waiting in their secret spot...or with Riku out on the boats, or even playing blitzball with Tidus and Wakka. This was some horrible mistake. A miscommunication. That's what it was. She told Tifa so too, refusing to believe that she saw pity in the ravens eyes. Tifa nodded and left Kairi on the beach, where the redhead sat.
And sat.
And sat.
Three days later, and still, no sign of Sora. By now, she was angry. Why hadn't he contacted her? Didn't he know it wasn't nice to leave her worring? He probably was just being careless agian. He did that alot, she reminded herself. So Kairi sat some more, waiting for the blue eyed wonder to come sit next to her, and apologize for making her wait so long, then to tease her about being such a worry wart. So she sat.
And sat.
And sat.
A week later, Kairi still sat, only this time, with tears running down her cheeks. She knew it was true. He wasn't coming home. She waited until the sun went down, and everyone had left the beach before she screamed, letting every emotion that she'd felt in the past week air out in that one scream. She screamed until she ran out of air, then she took another breath, and screamed some more. She screamed until her throat was so sore that it was impossible to even whisper, let alone scream. Then, after she was done screaming, she ran into the ocean. She ran until it was knee high...waist high. She ran until it covered her head. Then she sat.
And sat.
And sat.
Until she couldn't hear her own sobs anymore.
Until she couldn't hear her grief.
Until she couldn't hear her heartbreak.
The last thought that echoed through her mind before she lost all conciencness was a promise the Sora had left her with.
I'll come back for you, I promise!
And as the black engulfed her mind...she answered.
I know you will.
