A TOTAL ONE SHOT OF CAT ROYAL AND SYD FLATCHER'S FIRST MEETING AND HOW THEY BECAME FRIENDS. BOOK: THE DIAMOND OF DRURY LANE
A little red headed girl was running through the streets of London with a smile on her face. She looked at the sweet shops and at the toy shops and at the gown shops. But she stopped in front of the butcher's shop and watched how a boy of about eight was watching his father work. His father was chopping some pork into little tiny pieces and his son was staring at it with amazement. The little girl was also looking at this but with horror and when the boy looked up out the window she yelped, squealed and bolted running towards a theatre. She looked back and that boy was running after her. Suddenly she felled into a puddle of mud because somebody had tripped her.
"Ha ha! Good one Billy!" Some boys were laughing at the poor girl. The one that had tripped her and that was called Billy was looking at her with interest.
"And who might this little chick be? Are ya lost? Well, 'ow 'bout we help ya get home. Maybe to a trash can." This caused the other boys to laugh louder. The girl got up and stamped her foot.
"I'm no chick! And I'm not lost, you bully! And I don't live in a trash can! I live at Drury Lane and my name is Cat Royal and I am not pleased to meet you!" Cat tried to get through but Billy pulled her hair.
"Red? Like a carrot!" He shouted to the other boys. Cat tried to make him let go but he wouldn't and he kept on pulling on it more and more.
"Oi Shepard! You let go of 'er!"Cat turned to look and it was the butcher's son.
"Or what Flatcher? You'll beat me?" Billy Shepard laughed.
"No, WE'LL beat you." Flatcher's friends suddenly came out of nowhere. Billy let go of Cat and backed away with his friends murmuring that this Flatcher was spoiling his fun. Flatcher boy looked at Cat and held out his hand."My name is Syd, Syd Flatcher."
"Syd." Cat said slowly and took his hand a little unsure. "Like Sydney?" The boys laughed while Syd went purple.
"If you are going to make fun of me then I'll leave." Syd was angry and he started to walk away but Cat ran up to him and caught his arm.
"No! Don't go! My name is Cat, Cat Royal and I didn't make fun of you. I was only curious. I don't have any friends. Please can I play with you lot?" Syd smiled.
"Sure but I'll need to have a word with my boys here if we can let you come with us. We're pretty respected around here and letting a girl into our circle could be troubling." Syd went to his friends and whispered something. When they finished the boys all came towards Cat and smiled.
"We allow you to come with us." They went in front of her and Cat tried to followed them but her little four year old legs were too small for a bunch of seven and eight year old boys. Syd looked back and he ran up to her.
"Here. Climb on my back." He said to her and Cat smiled. She knew she had just made a good friend.
