I Dreamt Of You…
Blinking back tears Kimberly Hart reached out a hand and gently let her fingertips graze the face before her
"I can't believe it…" she whispered, her own voice summoning forth echoes from her past. "Is it really you?"
The chocolate eyes that lay before her could have belonged to no one else, and as caramel and chocolate blended into one Kimberly raised her fingers and gently stroked the black and blue patch that was now appearing on his chin.
"I dreamt of you…" the mans voice was deeper than she remembered but it still managed to soothe her battered soul the way it always had.
"I can't believe you came for me" the words were those of a man that had been to hell and back and was lucky to still be alive
"I can't believe you thought I wouldn't"
"I dreamt of you…" he repeated as though he couldn't quite believe all that had happened
Kimberly couldn't believe that after all this time the feel of his skin beneath hers could still cause her hardened heart to melt.
"I thought they had killed you" Kims voice broke as her words repeated in her ears and reverberated throughout her soul. " I thought I'd lost you" The tears finally began to fall as Kim slowly accepted everything she had seen tonight
Him… now a man, brought to his knees during a battle that could have robbed him of his life, thus robbing Kim of hers
His dark eyes burned into her own as though trying to tell her something that he didn't yet have the courage to put into words
"I thought I was too late, I thought I'd never see you again…" a sob escaped her throat as her fingers tangled in his blood soaked hair, it was short now and she couldn't help but think that the length he worn all those years before would have protected him better tonight.
"I've seen you every day since you left" his eye lids fluttered shut, his long black lashes coming to rest on his high cheekbones.
Momentary panic set in and Kim quickly dropped her head to his chest. She could still hear the precious thump of his heart …a heart she had all but destroyed 13 years earlier
"You can't leave me" she whispered into the warm skin of his throat
"I never could"
"But you're bleeding…"
" I have been for 13 years"
"I'm serious, it looks really bad"
"Nothing can be that bad… you're here"
Kimberly lifted her head and again looked into the face that had haunted her dreams for as long as she could remember. She had thought that she had lost him a lifetime ago, but when the moment came that could be his last there was only one name on his lips, and there had been only one man in her heart.
The chocolate orbs opened again and gazed into hers as though there was no one else alive but them.
A soft smile pulled at his lips
"I dreamt of you" the words fell from his lips like the tears that were falling from Kims caramel eyes
"Tommy… I'm really scared"
"You'll always have me Kim"
"Promise you wont leave me" she whispered, slowly lowering her full pink lips to his and she could have sworn that she felt his heart beat quicken beneath her hand that was now resting on his solid chest
"I never could…" He silently promised
