Katniss' Lost Letter

In "Catching Fire," Katniss was denied the opportunity to say goodbye to her friends and family. But, what The Capitol didn't know was that she wrote a letter to Gale to say goodbye. Now, years after The Capitol destroyed District Twelve her lost letter to Gale has been found.

Dear Gale,

I'm sorry that I didn't get to say goodbye... I wanted to, but they had already made other plans. But, I will admit that this may be for the best. Gale, I know that I'm not going to come home this time. But, if my plan works, Peeta will... I'm trying my best to keep him alive; it's the least I can do, after all he's done for me. I'm going to do everything I can to repay him for that... even if that means my own death.

I know that you probably want to scream your head off at me right now... but, I promise I know what I'm doing.

I love you, Hawthorne... but, if I don't do this, who knows what will happen? Gale, I'm honestly not just doing this for Peeta... if will be best for all of Panem if I die. I can't say anything now, so Haymitch will explain everything when he returns with Peeta.

Look Gale, I desperately need you to trust me on this... Like I said, I do know what I'm doing. I angered the Capitol, this is where it ends... no one else is going to die because of me. I already hated having to kill those tributes... I never asked for that and I'm certainly not asking for this!

Before I say goodbye, I want to thank you for everything you've done for me. You taught me how to hunt... how to shoot a bow and arrow, to set traps, basically- you taught me how to survive. But, you gave me an even greater experience: You were my best friend. You taught me so much from this simple thing that I can't even thank of where to begin! Finally, you helped me take care of my family. After I had taken over the role of mother after dad died in the mines... you basically took over the role of the father. I can never thank you enough for that.

Can I ask you to do one last thing for me, though?

Please protect, take care of and send my love to: Prim, my mother and Madge. I wanted to send them a letter, but I could never make it sound right... I'm lucky that I can even write your letter right now! By the way, if the paper is wet please forgive me... my eyes aren't exactly dry right now.

Goodbye Gale, I hope you have a nice, fulfilling life. I know that you'll be an amazing father... you already proved that. I also know that you will succeed in whatever you decide to do once I'm gone.
