Scorpius Malfoy stirred the ladle in his cauldron, trying to ignore the rapidly overpowering smell of vanilla and grass that was emanating from his cauldron. He wrinkled his nose, as he stared distastefully at his potion. He looked up at the blackboard, on which the instructions for this days potions. He glared at Professor Slughorn who had decided to up the stakes for today's lesson. They were supposed to brew the potion, and guess what it was. But for his life, he couldn't figure out what this potion was, and why it smelled like the Weasley brat, Rose.
He glared at the girl in question, rolling his eyes as he watched her frantically paging through her textbook, trying to find out what this potion was. She was such a goody two-shoes. Everything about her irked him.
"Oi! Weasley!" He said, smirking disdainfully at the girl who was working at the potion station to his right. The girl raised her head, and sighed. She tilted her head questioningly. "This stupid potion smells just like you. Disgusting and foul." He said smirking.
"Sod off Malfoy!" Rose retorted, glaring at the blonde until he turned away. How dare he insult her! That arrogant prat was just asking to get hexed with a triple Bat-Boogey Hex that her Aunt Ginny had taught her over the summer. And the potion didn't even smell like her. Her potion and Albus's had smelt like that foul cologne Albus had given to him for Christmas last year.
"Ms. Weasley! Mr. Malfoy! Quiet down, the both of you!" Professor Slughorn said, jarring her out of her musings. Rose shot a quick glare at Malfoy's head, before apologizing to the professor. The professor nodded gruffly, and then chuckled to himself as he shook his head. Often time Rose would notice him quietly laugh to himself like this, but she could never figure out what amused him so.
"So class, has anybody figured out what this potion was?" He asked, and Rose burrowed her head into her arms. She hadn't figured it out, and she had no doubt in her mind that the prat Scorpius would pounce upon this opportunity.
To Rose's surprise, it was actually Jeanine Nott who raised her hand instead. Seeing as she was the only person who had her hand up, Professor Slughorn called upon her. "Yes Ms. Nott? And if you can correctly tell me what it is best known for, I'll give your house 20 points."
Jeanine smiled to herself, and smirked. "This potion is Amortentia. Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in the world. It is distinctive for its mother-of-pearl sheen, and steam rises from the potion in spirals. Amortentia smells different to each person, according to what attracts them." She said, her face smug.
Malfoy's face fell, as he shook his head, his face solemn. Jeanine simply grinned wider. "And Malfoy, we all heard your last comment."
Professor Slughorn smiled widely. "20 points to Slytherin!" He said, and the Slytherins in the class erupted with cheers. That was, every Slytherin except for Scorpius, who happened to be glaring at a certain Gryffindor with resentment.
