Mexico City - November 24th, 1864

It was currently night in the capital of Mexico, and everything was quiet.

In the midst of the city was a small outpost were a high ranking commander of the French forces occupying the city was staying for the time being. He had important documents in his possession which needed to be delivered to his superiors by tomorrow morning and was currently being guarded to make sure nothing happened to him or the documents.

On the roof of the compound, one of the guards assigned to protect the commander was going through his shift, until he thought he saw something in the corner of his eye in the shape of a white-clad figure. Turning to his right to the next building, he saw that there was nothing there except an empty roof.

Before he took up the post, he was told by his superiors to look out for anyone wearing white or in some sort of robes. Honestly, he had no idea what that meant since the Mexican resistance wore red, but he agreed nonetheless. Taking a few more seconds to look across the roof for anything suspicious, he came to the conclusion that there was nothing there.

'Probably just my imagination,' he thought with a shrug, continuing on with his shift.

Meanwhile across the street, a single figure hid behind one of the chimneys roofs, avoiding the eyes of the guards.

The man was dressed in a hooded white rustic poncho, with red tribal designs along the edges that covered his frame and face, a long sleeve white shirt under it with a pair of brown bracers along his arms, black fingerless gloves, brown pants, and brown leather boots.

Underneath the poncho was the man's armour and weapons, which consisted of a leather chest piece, pauldrons, shinguards, a sword by his hip, a holster with 6 throwing knives on the other, a Remington navy revolver attached to his back with the bullets attached to his belt, and a few pouches full of various bombs.

This was no ordinary man, this was an Assassin.

The Assassin let out a quick sigh as he peeked around the corner of his cover to see the guard going through his routine. He mentally berated himself for almost getting caught, but continued on with his mission.

Currently, the Assassin was on a mission to eliminate a high-level commander who was an agent for the Templar Order, who had some documents which he was also tasked to retrieve for the liberal rebels looking to retake the city. The documents were supposed to be locations where the Liberal forces were hiding, and he needed to retrieve them before they were delivered.

Checking around to see that he was in the clear, the Assassin rushed over to the edge of the rooftop and jumped over to the next, clinging onto a brick that was pushed out enough for him to grab onto. With a heave, the Assassin used his upper strength to climb across the wall to get to an open window to get to the commander's quarters. After making it to an open window, the Assassin leaned in to see a room dimly lit by a single candle on a desk, where he saw his target sitting and writing in his Journal. Though looking beside the captain on the desk, he saw a folder filled with an assortment of papers, which must have been the documents he needed.

Using his skills he had perfected over the years, the Assassin snuck into the room while being as quiet as a mouse, and approached the commander, but as he continued to walk, his foot hit a loose spot on the floor causing a small creaking noise.

The commander stopped writing in his journal as he heard the noise and turned around to see the Assassin standing right behind him. He jolted from his seat as he tried to look for a weapon, causing the Assassin to rush at him.

"Guar-!" The commander said trying to call for the guards.

Unfortunately for him, the Assassin flicked his wrist causing a hidden blade to appear from his bracer and stabbed the guard in the chest while he covered his mouth to stop him from causing any more noise. the Assassin watched as the commander went limp, and life faded from his eyes. After seeing the man die in front of him, the Assassin took the blade out of his chest and slowly lowered the man onto the floor. As he laid there, the Assassin waved a hand over his face and shut his lifeless eyes.

"Descansa en Paz," He whispered.

Although he was a killer and the Templars were his enemy, he was still respectful to those he killed regardless of who they were.

Standing back up, the Assassin went over to the commander's desk where he saw the documents and collected the papers. All that was left to do now was escape the hot zone and get back to the sanctuary.

Placing the documents in his back pocket, the Assassin walked over to the window to make his escape but froze when he heard the sound of the door opening, and a guard walked in.

"Hey, boss are you okay? We heard shouting," The guard said as he walked in, but froze when he saw the dead commander and the Assassin in the middle of the room, "What the? Assassin!"

"Mierda," The Assassin cursed, taking out a knife and throwing it into the guard's neck, sending him to the floor.

"What was that!?"

"Shit is there an intruder!?"

"Someone check that out now!"

After hearing the sound of more oncoming guards, the Assassin made a full sprint to the window where he jumped out of it and landed on the paved street right as a couple of guards came running into the room.

"After him!" One of the soldiers yelled as he saw the Assassin escape.

Today was a special day for all second-year students at the Tristain Academy of Magic, for today was the day that they would take part in the familiar summoning ritual, and summon their familiars.

Currently, all of the students were present in the courtyard, each with a familiar in hand or by their side. Some were small like dogs, frogs, and even a fire salamander. A few, however, were larger in size, like a giant more or a dragon.

"Okay, has everyone present gone?" Professor Colbert's asked the crowd, looking to see if anyone hasn't summoned a familiar yet.

Amongst the crow was a petite girl with long bright pink hair and eyes. Like the rest of her fellow students, she wore her academy uniform which consisted of a white button-up shirt, black short skirt, and a long black cape with the academy seal on it. Her name was Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière.

Currently, Louise was trying to sulk away from the professor's eyes, hoping that she wouldn't be seen and hopefully try to avoid the summoning ritual. Don't get her wrong, she wanted to summon a familiar and prove that she was just as much as a mage, and noble, as the rest. However, Louise had a bad reputation when it came to magic, in the form of just about every spell blowing up whenever she tries to cast it. So with hope, Professor Colbert wouldn't notice her and she wouldn't have to try to summon, at least not till she practices some more.

However, fate had a different plan in store for her.

"Professor Colbert, Louise has yet to go!" A voice from the crowd yet.

Louise grit her teeth as she turned to the owner of the voice, Kirche, an exchange student from the barbarian country of Germania, and Louise's rival and number one on the 'I want to stab you with a rusty butterknife' list. She had long scarlet red hair that went down to her back, cocoa brown eyes, and mocha brown skin. Like the rest of the students, she wore the same uniform with the same shirt, except hers had the top portion unbuttoned to show off her 'impressive' cleavage.

Kirche and Louise shared a special relationship, in the form were Kirche liked to poke fun at the small girl, and then Louise would go on calling her a filthy fat cow. To Kirche, it was just plain fun and teasing, but to Louise it made her want to absolutely murder Kirche.

"Ah yes, Miss Vallierie. Come on now no young lady, have faith. I know you can do it," Colbert said to her,

"Y-yeah, sure," Louise said as she slowly walked forward, trying to avoid the gazes of her fellow students.

As Louise walked over to the center of the courtyard, she caught the sound of the other students whispering amongst themselves as they stared at her.

"Honestly why does she even try."

"Well, this is going to end badly."

"Why is she even going up there?"

"She'll probably end up blowing up the whole courtyard."

As the students continued to chatter, Louise felt more and more of her pride and spirit shatter with every word.

"Silence!" Colbert yelled making the crowd go silent, "One more word out of any of you and you will all face punishment! This is a fellow student of yours, quit acting like children and start acting like real nobles, show some respect."

Louise made a mental note to properly thank Colbert after her summoning, he was always one of the nicer professors who seemed to give everyone, including her, a chance at things.

After reaching the center of the courtyard, Louise knelt down and took a piece of chalk from her pocket, and begun to draw the summoning circle. She made sure that everything was perfect, every line, every symbol, every single thing she drew was as it should. She spent days and night staying up late making sure she burned the image into her mind, hoping that she wouldn't mess up.

When she finished the circle, she stood up straight up and took a deep breath. Raising her wand, she gave a silent prayer to The Founder and begun the spell.

As the Assassin ran through the street, moving through crowds of people as a couple of guards tried to give chase. He looked back to see two guards running his way, and looked for a possible way to get rid of them. Fortunately, he saw a small fruit cart up ahead being held up by an old piece of wood. Running up to the fruit cart, he kicked away the small piece of wood away, causing the cart to tip over and its contents spill to the floor. As the fruit rolled into the street, two of the two of the guards managed to avoid the rolling fruit, while the other two slipped on them and fell face first onto the hard paved road.

The Assassin smiled as he looked back to see half of the guards down for the count, and turned the corner to try and escape the two that were chasing him, but stopped as he saw two more heading in his direction. Deciding it was time to fight, the Assassin drew his sword, an American light cavalry saber, and took up a stance. One of the guards from the front ran ahead of his college and tried to swipe at him, only for the Assassin to parry it and slash the guard across the throat, sending him to the floor.

"My servant that exists somewhere in this vast universe…"

Suddenly, the sound of a woman's voice echoed in his, and the Assassin looked around hastily to see where it was coming from.

'What was that?' He thought to himself.

He had no time to ponder more, however, as he saw one of the guards from the back readying a rifle at him. The assassin grabbed the one soldier from the front who tried to stab him when his back was turned and used him as a human shield to block the incoming bullet.

"my divine, beautiful, wise, powerful servant, heed my call..."

Ignoring the woman's voice, the Assassin threw the dead body away and charged towards the other guards. While the other was reloading his rifle, his comrade charged at him with a sword in hand to try and hit him, but the Assassin parried him like the last and stabbed the man in his chest.

"I wish from the very bottom of my heart and add to my guidance and appear!"

Suddenly, much to the Assassin and last Guard's surprise, a glowing green oval suddenly appeared right out of thin air behind the Assassin. Seeing the anomaly, the Assassin took his sword from the dead guard's chest and slowly backed away from it.

'What the hell?' was the collective thought of him and the remaining guard as they gazed at the anomaly.

Suddenly, the Assassin felt as if something began pulling him forward, and found himself being pulled into the green oval.

"Que demonios!" The Assassin yelled as he tried to escape the pull of the oval.

As this was going on, the last guard looked at the display and saw that the Assassin that has been giving them trouble was vulnerable, appearing to be too distracted with whatever the hell was happening to notice him. Deciding to take advantage of the situation, he hastily continued to reload his rifle while he had the chance.

Meanwhile, The Assassin was having a real hard time with whatever this green oval was, and had his arm already entrapped into it. Suddenly his instincts were warning him of something from behind, and the Assassin looked back to see the last guard, now with a loaded rifle, aiming it at him.

"Mierda!" He cried as he tried to get out of the way.

The guard fired the rifle which was aimed for the Assassins chest, but the Assassin managed to move his body just enough so that the bullet hit him in the shoulder. Although the shot didn't hit its mark, the force from it was just enough to make the Assassin stumble back, and become consumed into the green oval before it disappeared entirely.

*BOOM!*

After Louise finished her chanting, the entire courtyard suddenly blew up, and a large smoke cloud clouded the area, blinding everyone's vision.

"Way to go Zero!" A random student yelled.

"Just as expected from someone like you!"

"This has got to be your biggest failure yet!"

As the students continued to berate her for her largest failure yes Louise fell down to her knees, ready to break down and cry. This just proves it, she was a failure o a mage, a total Zero who would be forced to go home to face her parents and be branded as a total loss.

"No...it can't be."

Colbert sighed as he looked at the form of Louise ready to break down and cry. Unfortunately for her, since she has no familiar, she would have to be expelled from the academy and sent home. It was truly unfortunate, and he felt bad for the was a mage. However as the smoke began to clear some more, Colbert saw a figure lying down were Louise drew her summoning circle, could it be?

"Well Miss Valliere looks like you actually managed to summon a familiar after all," Colbert said, breaking Louise from her mental breakdown.

She looked forward hoping to see her familiar be something like a small animal, or maybe even a dragon if the founder was listening to her.

Unfortunately for her, it wasn't any of those things.

her familiar was a man, clad in some sort of white poncho with strange unfamiliar red patterns on it, a white dusty shirt, and brown boots and pants. He was currently lying face first on the floor and wasn't moving at all.

A commoner, She summoned a commoner!

At the sight of her familiar, all of the students behind her suddenly broke out in fits of laughter at the total embarrassment of a familiar.

"Ha, of course, it would be Zero of all people who manages to summon a commoner of all things!" A random student yelled from the crowd.

"It's almost too fitting for someone like you!"

"Way to go Zero!"

Louise couldn't believe it, but it was there right where she drew the summoning circle, this commoner was her familiar.

"Professor Colbert, please let me try again!" She pleaded, hoping to try again and get a better familiar.

"I'm sorry Miss Valerie, but the Familiar Summoning Ritual is a sacred even, so I cannot allow you to do it again," Colbert said.

"But...But..bu-"

"Miss Valliere, like it or not this commoner is your familiar, so please finish the ritual."

Louise tried to think of an excuse to get her to try again but stopped when she saw Colbert give her a stern look. So with her head held low, she walked over to her familiar to seal the contract.

As Louise walked over to contract her familiar, she noticed that he was still not moving. She knelt down next to him to try and push him over so she could seal the contract but stopped when her hands touched something damp. She looked over to her left hand, which was on his shoulder, only to see that it was now covered in blood.

Her familiar's blood.

Louise screamed as she backed away in shock at the sight of the red liquid on her hand, followed by the gasps of the students once they saw what they were screaming about.

"Someone call a water mage now!" Colbert yelled.
