Lin's scar really interests me...I really wanna hear what happened with that...I'm working on a fluffy Linzin piece, but it's hard for me. This started out happy, but then I screwed that up by bringing in Pema. Sorry.

I own nothing. *Le sigh*

They were lying on his bed, wrapped in blankets and each other. Her cheek was pressed against his chest, and his chin rested on her head. He was tracing the scar with his fingers.

"Do you think it's ugly?" she asked softly

"No." he pressed a kiss into her hair. "Do you want to tell me about it?" she sighed.

"No. Yes. I don't know."

"You don't have to."

"Thanks.". She intertwined their fingers, pressing her palm against his. They lay there in comfortable silence, warm and happy before she broke the moment.

"I was sixteen. In training. There was this guy, he was robbing some tiny shop. I was sent after him. But he wasn't that much older than me...he was really young, and if I caught him, he'd lose his shot at a future. And I hesitated. I gave him time to run. I shouldn't have, but I did. He panicked. He had a knife, he pulled it out, swung it at me wildly-he didn't know any better-and that's...that's why there are scars on my face.". He tries to think of something supportive to say, but his curiosity gets the best of him.

"Did you catch him? In the end?"

"Sort of. We caught him, but mom didn't jail him. She found-other ways to punish him."

"And are you okay?"

"Yeah. I just wished it weren't so-I never felt pretty afterwords. I missed feeling pretty."

"Well, I think it's pretty badass." she laughed, and happiness of the moment swept back in.

When he met Pema, she knew it was over. She let him go without a fight. She couldn't stop the resentment. She hated that he'd left her for someone so beautiful. If she'd been smarter, or stronger, or funnier she would have been okay with it. But she couldn't change how she looked. She didn't have the chance to fight for him. So she left without a parting shot.

"You better make him very happy"

"I'm sorry, Lin"

"Whatever"

That damn scar.
