Prologue
"This trial is called into session, before the Führer King Bradley, the case is the Amestris Military verses Lieutenant Elizabeth Hawkeye. Lieutenant Hawkeye, you are here before a jury of your peers,-" She glanced around the court room, the counsel of her peers consisted of several of the higher-ups, a single major, and a Captain, hardly a jury of her peers but then again she never expected a fair trial when she received the notice of her court-martial. "-so as to determine your guilt-"
"Don't you mean my innocence, Captain Fokker?" said Riza cutting off the Captain in mid sentence, probably not the best idea but she had decided that two could play this game.
"That is to be determined by the jury of your peers Lieutenant, now as I was saying, you are being brought before the court to determine your guilt of fraternization. I, Captain Fokker, will be presenting the case for the prosecution and have you chosen a defense counsel?" asked Captain Fokker as he adjusted his glasses and looked up from his notebook. He had clearly been given a speech to read from the higher-ups, because Riza knew that Captain Fokker had never given an opening speech in court like this before.
"I will be representing myself, Captain." Riza said as she glanced to the audience to see if anyone had come to support her. Colonel Mustang was seated in the very back with Sergeant Fuery who seem to be taking notes. Mustang looked very annoyed but nodded to Riza, silently agreeing with her choice.
"Not a wise choose Lieutenant Hawkeye," Fokker said with a slight sigh that probably escaped notice by everyone except Riza who spent far too much time listening to the Colonel do the same noise as she gave him work.
Riza had the strong urge to make a come back but held her tongue and allowed Captain Fokker to continue. "So proceedings will work as follows, I will present the case against you, with witnesses and evidence showing your guilt, you will have a chance to question the witnesses as I present them then you will have an opportunity to present your side of the story. Any questions?"
"No," Riza said simply
"Then we will begin the procedures, you may step down and take a seat at the defendant's table." Fokker said as he gestured to the table behind him. Riza stood slowly from the hard, tall backed wooden chair she had been seated in and crossed the court to her table. She lingered for a long moment behind the table, staring up into Führer King Bradley's eye, he merely started back at her with an expression that Riza took to be boredom. She nodded to herself, trying to boost her confidence and took a seat.
"As the first witness, the prosecution calls Colonel Roy Mustang to the stands," Fokker read off his notebook and turned the page before looking up to located the Colonel. Roy stood up in the back of the room but Riza couldn't bring herself to look at her former commanding officer. She heard him make his way up the aisle and Riza glanced his way as he passed by before he took the stand.
"Do you Colonel Roy Mustang promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you God?" Fokker asked as he focused his attention on Roy.
Roy crossed one leg over the other, leaned back slightly, and with a wicked grin said "Yes, sir."
Riza suddenly wasn't so sure that she was going to be able to win this trial.
