Sirius grinned at the girl that sat with Alice.

"Padfoot, don't do it," Remus said, his voice conveying how bad he thought this idea was.

Sirius tore his eyes away from Hermione. Ever since she mysteriously transferred to Hogwarts—something that hadn't been done in over one hundred years—he was completely smitten with her. Hermione was to Sirius what Lily was to James. And considering how many females at the school wanted Sirius, it was odd that the one girl Sirius was truly interested in didn't seem to show the least bit of attraction. Then again, Sirius hadn't bothered asking her out. His assumption was based on the fact that she didn't throw herself at him.

"Come on, Remus. What's the harm in it?"

"The harm is you're taking away her free will. I've wanted Lily for years, and I've never even considered what you're thinking about doing," James stated sternly.

"It's right up there with the Imperious Curse," Remus advised.

Sirius rolled his eyes. "You're exaggerating. If it was that bad, it would be listed as an Unforgivable. She'll only have to say yes for 24 hours. What's the worst that can happen?"

"Besides her hexing you when the spell is broken?" James asked.

Sirius nodded.

Remus bit his bottom. "Sirius, you won't use it to... Um... I hated to even ask it, but you won't use it to take advantage of her, will you?"

"Of course not," Sirius exclaimed. "That's rape," he hissed, hoping no one would overhear. "I can't believe you thought I'd actually do something like that. I just want her to say yes to going out on a date with me."

"If anyone else asks her something, she'll have to say yes to them as well. What if someone else decides to take advantage?"

Sirius's eyes narrowed at the thought of anyone doing that to Hermione. "We'll just have to keep any eye on her and protect her then, won't we?"

As soon as the spell was cast, Sirius didn't waste any time before he approached Hermione. "Lovely Hermione, will you do me the honor of being my date to Hogsmeade this weekend?"

Hermione raised her eyebrows. "Yes, I will, Sirius."

Sirius grinned. "Great. Can't wait. I'll show you the time of your life." He turned to walk away.

"Sirius?" she called.

He stopped in his tracks and looked over his shoulder at her. "Most spells kind of bounce of a shield I keep around my person at all times. I only lower it for practical DADA lessons. There was no reason to use such a spell on me if you wanted me to go on a date."

Sirius quickly walked away as his mind whirled. Why would a sixteen-year old girl have that kind of shield around her? What was her past like? He hoped to find the answers to his questions eventually.
