"Are you sure skinny dipping with sharks is a good idea?" Nina murmurs as she watches Ian strip down and run into the dark water.
"Come on it'll be fine. Remember what the guy said, they're only basking sharks, they don't hurt people." He calls, standing waist deep with soft waves lapping around his body.
Nina can't help but let her eyes roam shamelessly over the heavenly sight that is a glistening wet, naked Ian Somerhalder. But she still hesitates, her fear of sharks something that has stemmed from watching jaws by herself in the dark at age 10.
Ian's soft chuckle makes her frown and glare at him, her hands resting on her hips.
"Not funny." She mutters, her lips slipping into a pout. He can read her like a book, she knows that he knows that she's imagining the part where the guys' legs get ripped clean off and swallowed whole. She shudders and wraps her arms around herself, her eyes wide.
She can see his face soften in the dim light and he walks back out, towards her, his feet leaving soft wet footprints in the warm sand.
"Do you really think I would ever ask you to do anything that would put you in danger?" He asks, reaching out a hand and tilting her chin up with his index finger.
She sighs and relents, giving him a quick roll of the eyes to hide her inevitable swoon at his sweet question.
She moves to unbutton the light blouse she has on, the only thing in her closet that doesn't stifle her in this hot weather. It was meant to be Christmas for god sake! Ian's hands still hers and a cheeky smirk covers his lips as his nimble fingers do away with her buttons. The soft material drops to the floor and he runs his hands across her shoulders, pushing her bra straps away. She watches as it joins her top on the sand and shivers. It has nothing to do with the temperature.
She smiles with him as his hands reach for her cotton shorts, another shiver running through her body as his gentle fingers graze against her hips.
"Ian…" She whispers, but he just smiles and holds her gaze as her final pieces of clothing fall to the ground.
Then he takes her hand and walks back to the water, she follows, partly because her body is thrumming with desire and she doesn't think she would be able to deny him anything at this point, and partly because when all is said and done, she trusts him.
The water is cool and refreshing and she dips her head back, getting her hair wet and relishing the feeling of calm that washes over her.
"Now isn't this worth it?" He asks, swimming up beside her, his eyes twinkling with that look he always gets when he knows he's won.
"Yes. It's amazing." She admits, looking up to the clear star filled sky, a dreamy smile spreading across her face.
"In fact, it could be perfect if you would just…" She swims towards where he is now floating on his back and runs a hand through his hair, a provocative smile on her face.
He stands up and pulls her closer to him, their lips join simultaneously, neither one sure who kissed who first.
"I'll always keep you safe. I promise." He whispers, tracing a hand down her cheek.
"I know." She replies softly, nothing but adoration in her eyes when she looks up at him.
Its later when Ian is tapping away at his laptop, sitting up in their hotel room bed with Nina curled up fast asleep next to him, that he remembers her quote from earlier.
Smiling he writes a quick tweet, leaving out of course whose observation it really was.
Nina stirs next to him and he smiles, closing his computer and sinking down into the bed next to her, reaching out an arm and pulling her closer to him. He falls asleep with a smile on his face, the familiar smell of her vanilla shampoo teasing his nose.
