Morning Storms

A/N: I should be working on something else right now.
The soft sound of pattering rain guided Touko out of sleep. Her eyes fluttered open, drifting to the electronic clock across the room. It read 6:14. Normally she would've been irritated by being woken so early, but the sound of the rain was just so pleasant she couldn't find it in her.
Pale morning light seeped through the open blinds onto the floor, lighting the room in an unobtrusive way. Her spouse shifted under the cool covers, wrapping his arm around her and burying his face in her mess of chocolate hair. His warm breath tickled the back of her neck, and made her smile softly. Both knew the other was awake, but were loathe to break the morning's silence.
N's zorua snoozed on her legs, oblivious to the weather. With each of his tiny breaths, his chest cavity expanded, rocking Touko's leg back and forth in a natural rhythm while the ceiling fan circled lazily above, barely making a sound as it moved the air.
The storms had woken all three of them up several times last night, with loud thunder cracks that shook the house. N, although not afraid of thunderstorms, had used that as an excuse to snuggle closer, and Touko didn't object. The lightning had vanished now, and the thunder was all but a distant grumble, barely louder than the rain. The shower was an even hum, so perfect in its constancy that had N been more awake, he would've commented on the math of it all. The sound of rogue droplets dripping off the side of the house in irregular rhythms broke his theory, but he was too occupied with the perfect brunette in his arms to care.
They held each other, content in just listening to the morning rain and staring out the window, watching the summer leaves dance every time they were hit by invisible raindrops. The light rain filled their backyard with a misty haze that wasn't entirely unpleasant. Another low grumble of thunder sounded in the distance, and in the moments of silence you could hear the faint sound of pidoves cooing to themselves, completely unbothered by the shower.
"What are they saying?" Touko asked softly, finally breaking the peaceful silence.
"Mmm," N hummed, lifting his head out of her hair so he could speak. "They're saying good morning," he whispered, kissing the back of her head.
Touko breathed deeply, pressing her head back into his chest. "Is that all?" she asked.
After a brief paused, he whispered, "No. They're saying I married the strongest and most beautiful pokémon trainer in the world."
Touko rolled her eyes, but couldn't keep the smile off her face. It was just another morning with N, and that in itself was everything.
A/N: My text-to-speech program that I used to proof keeps pronouncing Touko as Too-ko and I'm just dying over here.
