Set during S1 E4 'A Broken Heart'

Just a short oneshot Syd/Vaughn moment :)

"Just remember that you can always... you know... you got my number." He told her quietly, desperately wanting to put an arm around her shoulders, draw her close and crush her against his chest until she stopped crying. He knew he was already in too deep with this woman, with her unrivaled focus, that innate ability she had to choose the right path to take, not to mention her undeniable beauty.

And she looked at him, her face tearstained, chestnut hair swinging slightly in the sea breeze, her face lit from behind by the flashing lights of a ferris wheel. And without saying anything, she reached out for his hand, curling her slender fingers around his index finger.

And Vaughn knew from that moment he loved her. He'd known Sydney Bristow for mere days, and though the rational part of his mind argued he was just lonely since the fight with Alice, ready to reach out to the first pretty girl who turned to him for comfort... he knew it wasn't true.

He'd sat back at home filled with tension as she went on SD-6 missions - even though she potentially was the most capable woman he'd ever met, the sheer agony of sitting in an office chair while she faced the worst of underworld scum was almost unbearable. Moscow, Madrid, Cairo... each location just put her in more danger than the last. Hearing her voice over the comms had already become like an addiction to him. He'd almost lost his head when he'd been replaced as her handler, and then two days later to be told he'd been drafted, earning a promotion (and a tidy pay rise) all thanks to her. The relief he felt, when he knew she'd gotten home safely... yeah, he was in deep all right.

They stood together on the pier, separated by more than just the distance between them, but as the heat of her hand warmed his entire arm, he swore to himself he'd find some way. If it meant taking down the whole of the Alliance singled handed, he'd find a way to be with Sydney.
