Into the Wild

Prologue

Misty was crouched low in the bushes ready to ambush her prey, the elk. Suddenly, she heard a loud rattling sound. Apparently, the elk heard it too and ran away. Misty glared furiously around looking for the source that had scared away her prey. Then, her eyes flittered open. She realized that it was just her housefolk re-filling her food dish. It was just a dream again. This time it seemed more realistic though. Misty couldn't get back to sleep so she decided to go outside.

The moonlight made her sleek silver fur glow as she stepped outside. What would it be like to live in the wild? Misty thought to herself. Maybe I can just take a look… it shouldn't be too dangerous. Misty trotted through the open gate and bounded into the forest. She sniffed around. It actually seems pretty nice here. Nearby, a rabbit was nibbling on something. She crept forward carefully. When she was only about a foot away, something rustled in the ferns. "Who's there?" she asked alert.

"What are you doing on our territory?" a strong young gray wolf asked.

"I didn't know it was anybody's territory I was just looking around!" Misty whimpered. The wolf relaxed a little.

"My name's Storm. What's a pup like you doing in the woods?"

"Well, I just wanted a little look around. The forest seems like a quiet, peaceful place." Then, both of them heard somebody coming.

"Quick run!" Storm warned Misty. "I hear wolves from my pack they'll be upset if they find you here!" Misty just stood there still uncertain what to do.

"I said run!" He growled. But it was too late, three large powerful wolves emerged from the darkness.

"Who do you have here?" A light gray she-wolf asked.

"She's not an intruder she's just a little pup wandering around." Storm said. He leaned over to Misty and whispered, "That light gray wolf is Rain. She's leader of my Pack! The jet black one is my mentor, Shadow. The dusky brown one is Dawn. Dawn is beta."

"Thank you for the introduction Storm." Shadow said.

"That silver pup actually looks like a pretty good recruit!" Dawn murmured to Rain.

"Do you think she would make a good apprentice for LightningPack?" Rain whispered back.

"Perhaps."

"Do you want to join LightningPack?" Rain offered.

"Me?" Misty asked surprised.

"Yes, LightningPack is looking for new recruits. More of our warriors have been dying." Rain's eyes filled with grief for a brief moment as she spoke of her lost warriors.

"Well, I'll think about it tonight I guess. Can you meet me here tomorrow?" Misty requested.

"Shadow will meet you here at sunrise tomorrow. Make your decision by then." Rain instructed. After the wolves went back to their camp, Misty returned to her own home deep pin thought.
