Prompt 8: Finding love at Hogwarts

When Percy asked out Penelope

Percy hastily walked down the corridor towards the prefect carriage. This year is the year, he thought to himself. This year he would ask the girl who had haunted his every thought for the few years, and even more so ever since they had been made prefect together and surprisingly she had known his name. He had never expected someone so beautiful and intelligent to know who he was.

Percy was perfectly aware that everyone found him to be an irritating prat at times, and he had expected that within time she would find him that way too, and yet here they were a year later and she still talked to him and enjoyed his company, it had to be a sign that she like him, it just had to be.

Percy slid open the prefect carriage door and found Penelope Clearwater already there and alone. Perfect, he thought to himself. At least if she rejected him no one would be around to witness his humiliation.

Penelope looked up from her book and smiled when she saw Percy Weasley stood there, feeling thankful that it wasn't that annoying Gabriel Truman, the Hufflepuff prefect in their year.

"Good morning Penelope," Percy said formally, deciding to keep the conversation neutral until he worked up the courage to ask her out. "Did you have a pleasant summer?"

"I did thank you Percy," she replied as she tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "And yourself?"

"Excellent, excellent thank you," Percy responded; his hand moved subconsciously to his head and he scratched it as he tried to think of something intelligent and witty to say to her.

There was a brief comfortable silence between the pair which was soon broken by Percy saying, "Doyouwannaogooutwime?

Penelope looked at Percy as she tried to make sense of what he had just said. She thought that she knew but she had to check; surely she had to be wrong.

"I'm sorry, what was that?" she asked

Percy flushed red as he took a deep breath and repeated himself slowly praying that she would say yes, "Do you, Penelope Clearwater, want to go out with...?"

Percy was cut off mid sentence by a pair of lips pressing against his.

"Yes of course I will," she whispered against his lips. "It took you long enough to ask though."
