Kakashi groaned as he heard the fire alarm go off. It was five on a Sunday morning, this was his day of rest. He sighed and quickly got up, rubbing his sleepy eyes and walked towards the kitchen. When he pushed the kitchen door open, he saw a sight that caused his head to immediately throb.

Sasuke was frantically using a kitchen towel to fan out the smoke coming from the frying pan on the stove. The four-year old was on his tip-toes on the kitchen chair, his dark eyes wide in panic as he looked from the frying pan to the smoke alarm. Kakashi cleared his throat, causing the young child to look over in his direction. He tried to hold in a chuckle at Sasuke's open mouth and wide eyes.

"S-sorry dad!" the child exclaimed, as his eyes started to get glassy. Kakashi walked over and took the towel from him, and turned the stove off. He quickly fanned the smoke from the alarm and the sound finally faded. He turned back to Sasuke, who was had tears streaming down his face.

"I-I just wanted to make you a nice breakfast for your b-birthday", Sasuke stammered out as he clutched the spatula, extremely dirty spatula Kakashi noted, with his tiny hands in front of him. Kakashi sighed, and went to ruffle Sasuke's hair.

"Don't cry Sasuke, you know I don't like you using the stove without me there. It's not safe." Kakashi said as he pinched on of the chubby, tear-stained cheeks. Sasuke gave him a sheepish smile.

"But since you were doing it for a good cause, I'll let you off the hook this time," Kakashi said, and felt his heart warm as Sasuke beamed at him.

"So, since you got me awake nice and early, let's finish what you were making." Kakashi looked at the contents of the frying pan and sweat dropped. It was filled with a lot of liquid and an egg yolk, with some of the egg shells in it as well. Kakashi sniffed it, and immediately recoiled. He got a mix of pepper and…boiled hot dog? He saw many different things bobbing up and in down in the mess.

"…Were you making me a…breakfast soup?" he asked.

"Soup? No daddy! It's pancakes!" Kakashi flinched at that answer, and made a mental note to have Sasuke watch him cook more often. He took the spatula from the child and moved the soup-ahem, pancakes around to see what was in there.

"Sasuke, why did you put Vienna sausage in the…pancakes?"

"Cause you like those. I thought I could put all your favorite stuff in the pancakes. Like how you put the chocolate chips. I put some M&M's and pickles too!" Sasuke exclaimed happily. Kakashi gulped.

"Well, all of those things…they don't uh…," Kakashi started, but took a look at Sasuke's sparkling dark eyes looking up at him, the tear stains still on his chubby cheeks. He took the spatula and got pieces of pickle and sausage out of the liquid on the frying pan. Kakashi held his breath as he put both of them in his mouth. He chewed the concoction slowly, rubbing his stomach to show how much he "enjoyed" it. Sasuke smiled, so proud of his work.

"Let me try!" he said, taking the spatula from his dad. Kakashi thought about stopping him, but who was he to try and stop the chef from tasting his own food?

Sasuke ended up with a piece of Vienna sausage and…was that a Cheeto? He watched Sasuke chew it, and made his "yucky" face. Kakashi almost released a breath of relief until he heard, "I don't like it. But since you like it daddy, it's all yours! Happy Birthday!"
