The bloke looks up and almost, almost tells the kid to scram.
Do you think I could... hold him?" Carl gestures to the small boy in Charlie's arms, smiling slightly. "My mom's pregnant." He elaborates, toeing the sand a little bit with his shoe. "I just wanna see what it's like."
Charlie's face brightens, knowing exactly how the child feels. Since the first time he'd seen Claire, pregnant and all, he'd longed to hold Aaron. For awhile, he'd been so worried he'd never get to hold him at all, with the fights he and Claire had had. Nobody ever trusted him with children, and he was guessing that nobody had trusted this kid either.
"Gotta keep his head up." He explained as Carl inched closer to him. "Hold him just like this, 'kay?" Charlie hands his step-son to Carl, watching his face carefully.
This is like nothing he'd ever experienced before. He'd holding this baby, this little life in his arms, and he feels important; like he had some kind of purpose, even if it's only temporary. Carl looks down into Aaron's little face and smiles softly. "Hi baby." He croons quietly.
Charlie feels and overwhelming sense of pride watching them interact with each other - Aaron pulling on the brim of Carl's hat and laughing, along with Carl chuckling right back with him.
"What's your name, mate?" Charlie asks, a smile still present on his face.
Aaron's little hand is on Carl's cheek as he responds. "Carl Grimes." He says, looking up at the newly-wed.
Charlie nods and grins even wider. "Well, Carl Grimes, have you ever heard of Drive Shaft?"
