Curiosity wed the Pirate
Song: Out Of My League by Stephen Speaks
Set during POTC 2, in the scene where Jack "proposes" to Elizabeth.
Well... It could have happened differently!
Elizabeth Swann was slumped on the steps of the Black Pearl, daydreaming about Will. More specifically, Will and her. Will and her getting married.... Damn Beckett! How dare he rob her of her wedding? For a compass?!
She was so deeply in thought that she did not notice one Captain Jack Sparrow swagger over and drop down next to her, staring at her. Then he spoke. 'My tremendous intuitive sense of the female creature informs me that you are troubled.' He raised his eyebrows.
Elizabeth spared a moment to glance into those deep brown eyes, regret it, and look away again. She was taught that you got closure from women, not men, and certainly not a pirate. Definitely not Jack Sparrow. But those eyes told her what she had been taught was wrong, so she decided to give it a go.
'I just thought i'd be married by now.' She paused. 'I'm so ready to be married.' It's true. Her and Will were a perfect match. She couldn't wait to marry him. Needless to say, when dear (bloody) Beckett ruined her wedding, she was furious.
Furious was a major understatement.
The solution to everything, in Jack's opinion, was handed to her: Rum. She took a swing without comment and thought about where Will was. Jack interrupted her thoughts. 'You know, Izzy...' Elizabeth frowned. Nobody called her that. 'I am... Captain of a ship and being captain of a ship I could in fact perform a marri-age.'
Where is he going with this? Elizabeth thought.
'Right here. Right... now.' Jack tried to whisper seductively, but being drunk all the time had its downsides.
Oh. That's where.
Were you not the one who dreamed of being on a pirate adventure?
Was it coincidental that her wedding with Will had been stopped?
Did she not prefer this life to the one in Port Royal?
Was Jack not the thing she wanted most in this world right now?
She whipped out the compass and took a peak, closing it before Jack could see. It was a strange thing, wanting someone other than who you were supposed to.... And suddenly being okay with it. She looked into Jack's eyes once again.
Did she trust him?
'I Do.' She blurted out, in response to her own question. Suddenly there was a giant grin in place of all the usual odd looks.
Jack Sparrow was truly happy.
Oh god, Elizabeth thought. How am I going to explain this to Will?
