The Crash
I'm Sam Puckett - Benson and I'm about to tell my twin girls Olive and Robin and my son Alex how their dad (My husband) Freddie died. It started as an ordinary day in the Benson household...
April 23rd three years ago
Freddie just went of to work and I'm getting the kids ready for school when suddenly there was a knock on the door. It was my best friend Carly asking me if I wanted to go with her to the mall. (After the kids are at school of course!) So I said sure and drove to Seattle Elementary School with my kids in the back giggling and smiling.
Seattle Elementary was in a bad part of town as I was driving to the school I saw teenage boys giving little girls wedgies, a high school girl talking trash to a "friend" that just walked away, boys punching each other over a girl that was standing by and other things I shouldn't tell you.
Seattle Elementary was an old school with the walls crumbling, swing sets squeaking, and the doors half off the hinges. It felt unsafe to let my kids go here but its the best that me and Freddie can do. Even now with money so tight we can barely put food in our stomachs. I let my kids off telling them I love them and that i'll pick them up latter. Am I up for another long day with Carly trying to shove me in dresses I can't afford, my kids being away at school, my husband away at work, and my mother-in-law nagging at my for anything and everything? No. Do I have to put up with it? Unfortunately yes. Time to get this long boring day started.
That night
I was so upset in till I got a call from the police that would change my life forever.
"Hi. Are you Sam Benson?"
"Yes."
"I'm sorry to tell you but your husband was killed in a car crash."
"What happened?"
"A young teenager was replying to a text when it swerved in to your husbands car. The car flipped over and fell in a ditch. Your husband was crushed. I'm sorry Mrs. Benson."
"Thank you."
I went to cheek it out myself just to make sure it was true and it was. I held on to Freddie's hand and cried in till I passed out.
1Year after the crash
Freddie's funeral was a week latter. Me, Carly, and my mother-in-law Marissa cried the whole time. My life was full of twists and turns since the crash. Alex almost died of starvation, so I let my kids live with Carly and her Husband Brad in till I could figure something out. I moved back in with my mom and within 6 months I became a waitress, and moved into a 3 bedroom apartment with my kids. I decided not to take my wedding ring of for anyone, so Brad and Carly's brother Spencer are the Male figures in Olive, Robin, and Alex's life. Me, Carly, and the kids visit Freddie on his birthday, Valentines day, New Years, Christmas, my birthday, and our wedding anniversary. I love and miss Freddie like crazy, but I decided not to let his death stop my life.
I know that Freddie is watching us and is happy where ever he is. So If you are in my position and need help. Just keep in mind if you have comfort and support everywhere you turn. You can have a happy healthy life.
