The Courtship of Suzumiya Haruhi
PROLOGUE – INTENTIONS
Objectively, how we ended up together seemed almost inevitable, right? Koizumi, while probably interested in her at one point or another, had other girlfriends and kept things generally platonic between the two of them. And though there was a certain lesbian subtext to her relationship with Asahina-san... well, let's just say I've since learned that it wasn't quite as some of the snickering rumors around school would've implied. As for Nagato... Yuki is Yuki. I'm... still not completely certain if she's human enough to feel things like that.
Maybe the alternate Nagato- but that isn't the same Yuki that I've learned to trust, after all.
So, yeah- the fact that I did end up dating Haruhi came as no surprise to anybody I know- but let me assure you, it was a surprise, if not an outright shock, to at least one person.
Me.
While I can't honestly say I wasn't attracted to her- I'm not so blind as to not realize from the very beginning that she is, to put it simply, stunningly attractive- it was not my intention at all to fall for her. After all the aggravation she caused me, whether directly or indirectly, she would've honestly been the last choice of the girls I know. But despite lacking Mikuru's moe or Yuki's quiet grace... she had something about her that...
Well, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. How we ended up this way is a story unto itself- one that nearly killed me on more than one occasion, come to think of it. Not, and I can't believe I'm saying this, that near-death experiences are anything other than modus operandi for me. That's also one of the reasons I'm surprised at our relationship- how many guys out there can claim that their girlfriend's very existence is a threat to their health and safety?
...oh, never mind. Romeo kind of had the same issue with Juliet, didn't he? But Haruhi hated Shakespeare, so she couldn't have...
...before my paranoia dumps me into the valleys of introspective melancholy, I think I better begin telling how I ended up with my Juliet. It started in sync with the first day of our last year of high school- the summer cicadas were still shrilly singing at nights, the trek uphill to school was at its most painful, and the SOS-dan's leader, the mad, annoying, energetic... and beautiful... Suzumiya Haruhi was...
...forcing Asahina-san into her brand new, high-quality, He Is My Master-inspired maid costume.
...maybe we better wait a while before checking in.
AN: Aaand this is, indeed, the prequel to The Evolution of Suzumiya Haruhi. D Because there's no way in hell I can manage to write all of this into Evolution without muddying up an already opaque plot. O;;
