I know you guys have heard this from a bunch of other authors before: But I really have no idea how it happened.
Actually, I've had this story in mind for months now, but I told myself that I wouldn't start it until I was done with Random Riffs. But I was writing the next prompt, Knowledge, and I was so on a roll until I hit a dead end and I've just been so stuck that I guess I had to take my "creative" frustration out somewhere. It could also be the heat. Because the Philippines in the summer means that every waking hour is so. fucking. hot.
But anyway, here's the deal on this story:
This is based on The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan. It's a novel that can only be described as perfect. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend that you do, not that you need it to understand this story. You just really need to experience Levithan's supreme talent.
I've never tried writing an AU before, not even in my other fandoms. So I hope it's not so bad for a first try, and I'd very much like to know what I can do to improve the story as I go along. Never really done a multi-chap either.
Speaking of which, if you do come to like this story, I cannot promise any sort of consistency in updates. So there. I do hope you guys stick around anyway.
And now comes the part where I apologize for the ridiculously long author's note and let you proceed to the actual material :)) Hope you like it!
Disclaimer: I don't really own anything. All rights go to David Levithan and the makers of Pitch Perfect, may those geniuses live forever.
FROM POINT A TO Z
PROLOGUE
It came in while he was at work. Jesse had been in the middle of a meeting with Ronald, a new and upcoming director who had made quite a buzz with his last film, an indie about a mother struggling with her relationship with her children. This was Ronald's first major motion picture, and Jesse had been discussing the direction he was taking so far with the musical score, when one of the assistants sheepishly walked in and handed him an envelope forwarded by his studio two floors down.
He feels a pain in his chest, something similar to that of a sinking heart.
Divorce papers.
Love is a funny thing. At the same time, it isn't. Love is also simple. And yet, it's extremely complicated. It's simple because you just feel it when it's there. When you love a person, that's all there is. Through everything, you just love that person, and that's what makes it simple.
But there's that everything part, and that's what complicates love.
Jesse knows that the arrival of the thick legal document should come as no surprise. It's not like he didn't know, he was the one who had filed for them after all. But now, holding the papers in his hands, he can't help but let his mind wander; past the glass windows of the conference room, past the present day to six years ago when love was simple and didn't involve everything.
Ronald notices the distant look on Jesse's face and calls the meeting to a close, giving the composer a sympathetic pat on the hand before clearing out with the rest of the music staff and assistants. Jesse had grown close to him throughout the making of his movie, and is thankful for the chance to let it all sink in.
He's alone in the conference room when he finally opens the envelope. His eyes skim through every word, every detail, trying to approach the last page as slowly as possible. When he finally gets to the end, there are two blanks sitting side by side with two names underneath. He has to sign first. And whether or not he'll have his lawyer send it over to her, or if he's going to give it to her himself is another issue.
Jesse buries his hands in his face, before letting them run up to his hair. He groans and lets his head drop, still gripping his short brown locks in frustration, closing his eyes.
How had they come to this?
Btw, I'm not such a fan of the title I gave this story. So I'm open to suggestions. Hit me up with what you think :)
