(A/N: Tomorrow I'm starting National Novel Writing Month (AKA NaNoWriMo), where you try to write a novel of 50,000 words in a month. If I don't post fan fics that much during November, that's why. Enjoy!)

Independent

Everyone saw Nessa as a delicate, fragile girl who always needed to be taken care of.

Boq knew her better than that.

Boq knew Nessa was actually smart, strong, independent, and a thousand other traits no one saw but him.

"Nessa?"

"Yes, Boq?"

"Why do you always let everyone think that you need taking care of? I mean, you're one of the strongest girls I know. You don't need anyone to take care of you."

Nessa waited a long time before answering. Boq could see how she was considering her reason carefully, rehearsing each word in her head. "It's just easier that way," she finally said, looking down at her pink dress.

This confused Boq. "You want people watching your every move?" he asked.

Nessa shrugged. "It's easier to pretend than to explain to everyone who I really am."

"Nessa, just know that you never have to pretend around me."

(A/N: Reviews are love!)
