It's raining in such volumes, breathing is all but easily accomplished. The only scent in the air is wet earth and my own fear drip out of my pores as I exit the bar, persuaded onward by my liquid courage. I knew that this wasn't the best idea but, as Red always said, sometimes you have to follow your heart instead of your head.
It doesn't take me long to arrive at her... no... their house, as every possible route had been stored in muscle memory over the times. My heart was pounded blood to my muscles and foggy brain at lightening speeds as the door got closer and closer... and when I was physically in front of it, I wasted no time in rapping my knuckles upon its solid oak frame.
It opened slowly, and the only thing that was visible through the lighted slit was red hair and a single silver eye... and the smell of Crystal's delicious cooking pervaded the air, stealing the attention of my nose. The man who's on the other side of the door wastes no time in assessing the stuation and scoffs. "You aren't welcome here, Gold. You know that." I can feel his smirk emanating from behind the thick wood and it drives me mad. "It's already been a few months, and you haven't bothered with any form of communication. She's done with you."
I shake my head, and can hear the sound of my teeth grinding together. What happens next is a total blur, with only bits and pieces coming into a clear reception: the door getting slammed open from my shoulder, the sound of his nose breaking underneath my knuckles, blood dribbling onto the ground... and my face slammed into said ground with my arm painfully pinned behind my back.
It's the cries of pain as his elbow digs into my back that brings out Crys and the fear etched in her face thrusts me into the darkest pit I've ever been in because I know that I'm the cause of it. "Call the police, now." She hesitates, and he pulls my arm back further in irritation.
Her feet patter away and the call is made. Knowing Silver, I'll have no chance in court... if I even get the privelidge of attending. She comes back now, and I can hear her pleading with her husband to let me go, she just wants to talk to me... but he won't listen to a word of it and instead brings me more pain.
The sirens are coming now, and I've already given up hope. My rival in everything finally stands up, releasing me to the dogs that will soon arrive and leaves the two of us. Once his fiery mane disappears behind a corner, Crystal slumps to the ground and cradles my bleeding face in her lap and she's stroking my hair and telling me that evrything will be okay and that she's so sorry...
Door opens. I hadn't realized it had been closed. Police come in, they pick me up roughly and slam me into the wall because I, apparantly, had a weapon on me. After a quick search and finding nothing but loose change, they cuff me. In front of me now are those beautiful crystalline blue eyes and I'm amazed they've allowed her this clo-...
She kisses me. She kisses me and in that bittersweet kiss, she says much more than words could express and I almost begin to cry right there in the arms of the police. "Don't give up hope... for the world works in strange ways."
I give her a small wink as I'm dragged away. "This won't be how it ends, Super-Serious Gal. You have my word on that."
