"And He was Gone"
"Stay here. I'll come back to you," was the last thing he said to her as he kissed her gently on the lips and left his love forever. All she had left was the rose he gave her and her heart standing still in the moment. She stood in that spot everyday, waiting for him to return, until she eventually wilted away.
Kenshin had left. He had come and stayed, and she had loved him. And then he left her. But she guessed that's all you can expect of a wandering samurai. Kaoru's eyes watered. She stood there silently, her kimono waving slightly in the wind. She could not believe what had just happened. She didn't know why he left; all she knew was that she would wait for him to return. "I'll come back to you," his words dwelled in her head. "I'll always wait here for you," she was able to say before she gently collapsed and fell asleep on the ground. She stood in that spot everyday. She never left. Kaoru stood there in the rain, in the heat, in the cold. At night, she fell to the ground and shivered in her sleep. A tear fell from her eye as she whispered "My Love." Time passed, and she stood there. She neither ate nor drank. All she did was wait, hoping her heart would make time go by so her love could return. Hoping her heart would remain still in time so she could last long enough to see him. Yet, time did not stop, and he was gone. The rain fell silently one night. She recollected times when they were together. Her hair was high in a ponytail, with a white ribbon. Kenshin gave her that ribbon; he took it out of his own hair. She took the ribbon out and clutched it for dear life. She could smell his fragrance on it. This made her cry, but this time she did not stop crying. Kaoru cried as she dropped Kenshin's rose and ribbon into a puddle and collapsed on the ground. "As long as I live, I'll always wait here for you. I love you."
Slowly, she said these words as her eyes closed and she left this world.
Her heart had died, and he was gone.

Yes, I know it is a pretty short fic, and it is kinda sappy. I had originally planned on making this story with my original characters, just mentioning 'he' and 'she.' Yet, I thought that this would be a sad story if the he and she were Kenshin and Kaoru. Just to tell everyone, they are my favorite Rurouni Kenshin couple and in more (better) fics to come, I will have them probably together in the end. I just like this idea for the story because I thought it was sad.
