FORCE ECLIPSE: Episode I: Parallax

"And they were made to wander in the wilderness of unknown space, until all the generation that had done evil in the Force was forgotten. And behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, a progeny of fallen men"

Prophecy of the Second Rising, The Accounting of Irtaz, Book III, 965 BrS

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

-- The Star Wars world belongs to George Lucas. We are playing in the sandbox of his galaxy, we walk in garden of his turbulence…in short, no profit or copyright infringement is made from or intended in this work of fanfiction. Aside from drawing inspiration from the Star Wars movies, some elements, mainly settings and characters, have been borrowed from Jude Watson's Jedi Apprentice and Jedi Quest Series, the Living Force campaigns, Dark Side Source Book, and Dark Horse Comics' Star Wars Republic series (although the age of Aubrey Wyn is changed). You do not have to be familiar with or have read these EU works or RPG guides to know what is happening in this fic though, as everything plot-wise changes anyway.

-- Dates and time are presented in accordance with the Galactic Standard Calendar, noted in text as [Year: Month: Day]. Years occurring before the Great ReSynchonization (which happened Year 965 after Battle of Ruusan) are followed by BrS. So for example, Anakin Skywalker was born in 7 BrS (which is also Year 958 ABR) and was found on Tatooine by Qui-Gon Jinn in year 3 (which is also year 968 ABR) Confusing? Yep. Canon? Unfortunately.

-- Because Jedi can be shifty little telepaths on occasion, their dialogue comes with this warning: "words like this" show spoken dialogue while //words like this// show nonverbal talking

-- The opening epigram quote is derived from Old Testament, Book of Numbers 32 "And the Lord's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was consumed. And behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, a progeny of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the Lord toward Israel. For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people." No disrespect is intended by this adaptation, I just happen to find inspiration for fanfic in odd places.

-- This is an Alternate Universe from the GFFA we know and love. This story premised on a singular point of change in the canon timeline, as my *humble* ambition is to hint at the fractals of cause and consequence which spread out from the experiences of just any one moment. Although I will stay as canon as possible, within the constraints of this AU timeline, there is one area, however, in which I break from the Star Wars world entirely – you will never ever read the word "midichlorians" again when reading this fic. As far as anyone knows, Anakin is just a kid with an extraordinarily strong connection to the Force. Genetics should not be destiny. 'Nuff said.

-- FYI, although modern neurology can not explain everything, there is a distinction made between different types of long term memory. Semantic memory is the memory of facts, such as Paris is the capital of France. Procedural memory is skill-based knowledge, the kind of "how to" understanding that isn't verbalized, it is implicit: it is knowing how to tie your shoelaces without really thinking about it. Episodic memory on the other hand is the autobiographic recollection of events and experiences -- like remembering that amusing time two years ago when you were trying to tie your shoe and read a map of the Paris metro at the same time, and you felt like such a stupid tourist. With memory loss it is possible to lose your episodic memory while retaining your procedural and semantic memory: you know what Paris is and can tie your shoes without thinking about it, but you can't remember if you have ever been to Paris or when you first learned to tie your shoes as a child.
