Alarm
What was that God awful sound? Hotch slammed his hand down on top of the alarm clock trying to make the noise stop. He did it again and then realized that the sound wasn't coming from the alarm clock on his side of the bed.
"Emily…" he mumbled into his pillow, "Turn your alarm off. Emily?" he turned over to find the bed empty beside him and the noise that had seemed so loud a minute ago was now muffled. It came from behind the closed bathroom door.
Hotch got up from the warmth of the bed and made his way across the bedroom to the closed door. The beeping noise seemed to stop as he pushed the door open. There in the middle of the tiled floor sat Emily. She had tears streaming down her face and was holding a long white, plastic stick in her hand. He had seen that one other time up close and personal, so he knew right away what it was. He sank down to his knees in front of her before she even knew he had entered the bathroom.
Emily looked up at him with unsure eyes as he took it from her hand. Hotch looked down and saw the two blue lines; a baby… wow.
"I'm so sorry Aaron. I don't know what happened. I'm on the pill, you know that. I don't know…" Emily said in a tear chocked up voice.
"Emily don't; you have nothing to be sorry for. If I remember right, I was present each and every time and I don't remember complaining either. Why are you crying for sweetie? Are you not happy about the baby?" he asked as he pulled her into his lap.
"Yes, I'm happy Aaron. I just don't want you to think I am trying to trap you into this relationship. I would never do that." she cried against the side of his neck.
"Emily, we have been seeing each other for seven months, you are practically living here. If I didn't see this as long term then I would never have let it get to this stage. I'm happy about the baby. Ecstatic really; I never thought about having more children. Maybe this time we'll get a girl." his hand ran soothingly along her back.
"So you're happy?"
"Yes Emily I am. But there is one thing I want to do before the baby comes." he said against the top of her head.
"What is that?" she asked quietly.
"I want to get married; I don't want our baby to be born without being married. Our child deserves us to be full time parents… in one house, under one roof."
"You want to marry me?" Emily asked in shock.
"Yes. Who in their right mind wouldn't want to marry you? I want to marry you whether we have a baby or not. So will you marry me?"
"Yes… Yes I will." she answered and then kissed him soundly on the lips.
