Hello, readers! Been a while since I last did a fanfiction, so lets see how rusty my skills are, shall we? XD I used to write really short chapters, so I'm trying to change that this time around…..this one might just be shorter cuz it's kinda a prologue or whatever to the story, and Microsoft Word's pages get smaller when published so…yeah LOL

Hope you guys enjoy! :D

"... So... guess that's it, huh?...Just...don't say i didn't warn you."

The end of another Genocide Run. Sans gripped at the wound on his body, sockets downcast and empty. He'd done this song and dance many times before, and he knew it. His warning had no meaning to the kid, the one with the power to reset. He was just playing a part now. Nothing mattered anymore.

He turned to leave. "Welp…..I'm going to Grillby's….Papyrus, do you want anything?" The last part of his sentence was muttered. Papyrus was dead. Dusted. And the kid would just kill him again once they reset. Again, Sans had done this all before. He didn't even know why he kept fighting. Falling to his knees, Sans faded to dust before the child's eyes. But to the skeleton, it felt more like a transition into a dream. When he awakened, he expected to find himself in his room once again, Papyrus yelling at him to get his lazy butt out of bed once more.

He didn't expect to find himself standing in a black void that was filled with various forms of neon blue code flying around, both freely and forming an odd landscape of sorts.

Sans' eye flared as he quickly glanced around, now on high alert. "W-what?! Where….?"

"Do not alarm yourself, Sans. You are safe here."

The short skeleton flinched, almost summoning a Gaster Blaster in his surprise. It wasn't like he really heard the voice, more like….it was in his head. "Who are you? Where am I?! What the heck is going on here?!"

"I am the Antivirus, and this is the MiddleVerse. You are here because your world and many others are in danger, and I have recruited you to help me fight the Dark Virus."

Sans said nothing at first, a bit critical and untrusting of the situation. Then he made a disgruntled face. "If you're the 'Antivirus', why aren't you able to fight this…'Dark Virus', on your own?"

The reply came without a moment's hesitation. "The Dark Virus has evolved to surpass me in attack. While I am not in dangerof being iradicated as of yet, we can no longer land blows on eachother in battle." Sans' eye flared a little brighter and the Antivirus elaborated. "Think of us as two ghosts. We cannot touch eachother, but the Dark is stronger than myself and so is doing more harm than I am currently able to repair." Now Sans calmed down, and his eyes changed back to normal. However confused he kind of still was, it made a bit more sense now. With one exception.

"Why me though? The kid…Frisk….they're more powerful than me. They can reset."

"And they've freed you and your friends many times as well as killed you and your friends many times. You keep fighting for good no matter the outcome. You keep fighting even when you feel it doesn't matter anymore." Sans looked down at the untied laces of his sneakers, a heaviness settling in his chest. "You are the true hero of your universe, and that is why I chose you."

Sans slowly glanced up again. "Will I be here forever?"

"No. You will return home only when one of two outcomes is done: You die fighting, or defeat the Dark Virus. If you die, you and your world will, unfortunately, cease to exist. You defeat the Dark, and you will go back home as you were. Time in your world will not pass until you return, you will not age while you are here, and you will not remember a thing when you go home. Same goes for the others who will join you in this fight."

"Others?"

Some distance away, the codes flew together and made a large gateway of sorts. A bipedal turtle with a blue mask and two swords strapped to his back fell through, landing on his face as the gateway disintegrated just as quickly as it had appeared. Code flew around the turtle, changing his swords from a normal metal to a glowing neon blue, same as the code that filled the digital landscape around them.

"Other heroes, all heroes of their respective universes and homes. Some are leaders of hero groups back at their homes, others are alone in their quests. Some have saved whole worlds, others have rescued small societies. You will pass on your knowledge of this situation I've brought them in to."

Sans watched as the turtle leapt to his feet, obviously wary and confused of his situation, and check the source of the glow on his back, checking out his upgraded swords with frightened awe. "On one condition, Anti."

"Oh?"

"Even if the others won't remember….I want to. The routine the kid's got going on back home….the resetting…it's getting to me. I need a new adventure to remember. Something…..something new, and even if we don't succeed...at least I go out happier than I came in.."

"Of course, Sans."

Concluding his conversation with the Antivirus, Sans turned and approached the turtle, casually shuffling over to a coded rock and standing on it to match the newcomer's height. "Hey buddy."

The turtle jumped, spinning around and holding his swords at Sans' stomach. "Where am I?! Who are you?! What is this place?! WHERE ARE MY BROTHERS?!"

"Calm down, kid. It's just you. Your, uh…brothers, are back home. Safe and sound. And this is the MiddleVerse."

The turtle was no longer yelling, but now stood frozen, and his blue eyes widened. "Y-you're a…a-a skeleton…"

"Yup. And you're a turtle….Hey, could you…point those somewhere else? Please?"

The turtle flinched as if slapped back to reality and shakily put the swords back into the scabbards on his back. Sans extended a bony hand. "The name's Sans. Sans the skeleton."

The turtle nervously took the skeleton's hand. "Leonardo….call me Leo."

Sans cocked his head to the side. "So….what's up with the swords-"

"Katana. My brothers and I are ninjas."

"Cool. I know a few folks back home who'd love to meet a ninja. I take it that you're the leader of your ninja bros."

Leo pulled back, surprised. "How'd you…?"

"Long story, buddy." Sans shrugged nonchalantly and sat down on his rock. "But we've got all day, so make yourself comfortable and allow me to explain a few things, mainly why we're both here and what we have to do."

Without much else to do, Leo sat down, cross-legged and ready to listen to all Sans had to tell him.
