As Elrond watched Arwen walk slowly to join Aragorn, he finally understood why Celeborn had made him that speech all those years ago...
"She's special, Elrond. A daughter is the most precious thing a father has. As important for you as a son would be, but a different kind of special. No matter how old she is, to you she will always be that little girl you've held for the first time. But then she grows and you have to let her go, watch her as she becomes a woman and gives her heart away to a man that isn't you. And while you want to shield her from harm, you know that you have to give her up, or she won't be truly happy."
Celeborn reached out and gripped the younger Elf's shoulder, his grip tightening a little more to be just slightly menacing.
"Take care of my daughter Elrond. The fire of the Noldor runs in her veins, keep that in mind."
The silver haired lord stared in Elrond's eyes, searching for even a single shred of doubt or fear, but he could only see love. Undying love. The same that was in his eyes when he looked at his wife.
Satisfied with that, Celeborn let him go and watched as Elrond finally greeted his daughter in the main yard of Imladris, ready in less than a month to be married.
Yes, Elrond now truly understood what his father-in-law had tried to say to him that day.
So, as he watched Aragorn kiss his Evenstar and lift her up in his arms, Elrond remembered all the times he had done the same to a younger Arwen, twirling her around and making her smile before healing her scratched knee, listening to her stories or cheering her up after a nightmare.
In their eyes Elrond could see the same love, the same connection that was present between him and CelebrÃan.
He couldn't help but clap with everyone else as they kissed once more and embraced, his eyes glistening with unshed tears at the thought that even if he had to leave her back in Middle-Earth, Arwen would be loved and taken care for.
I've written this in like 15 minutes, so tell me if there are mistakes that I din't see. It would be very appreciated!
25-09: I have edited it a little, hope it's better now!
