The sun had just disappeared behind the think spruce forest. The sky had a beautiful shade of pink. Deciduous trees had lost their leafs.

All but one room in the Avery house was black out. Several candles flickered in the sitting room.

Grey-white smoke seeped out of the chimney. A crow left the roof-ridge.

Caspar Avery had just come home. He hung his cloak over the back of a chair.

Kissed his wife on the cheek.

She rocked their one month old baby boy.

"How was your day?" she asked.

"Fine. Shall I take him?"

"If you want."

Caspar stroked his son's forehead, his little nose, his chin. He was perfect.

Someone knocked on the door.

Little Christopher whined. Both Caspar and Glenda were surprised.

"I take it." Caspar handed Glenda their son.

The hallway was cold and dark.

Caspar dragged the door open.

"Good evening, Avery." The man stepped in. "Remember me?" He flashed his teeth.

Staggered. Gulped. Caspar stared at the man in front of him. Riddle.

Just as he had become happy, he wasn't ready for the end.
