A.N: Hello! I'm back! I realise that my Faberry fic has been severely neglected, but I hit a bit of a brick wall with it and then got distracted by a million other things so I kind of forgot about it... but I promise I will update it at some point! Anyway, here's a Brittana idea I had that kind of blossomed into a full blown fic so I just had to post it. Hope you enjoy it and hopefully I will be posting more soon! If you like this please leave reviews, they always motivate me :)
She's standing alone outside, hearing the muffled music and the excited chatter in the distance. She couldn't believe she was here alone. Sam had broken up with her and asked Rachel to the prom, much to her disgust. A year ago she could have had any guy in this school and now she's dateless on prom night. God, I really am a loser, she thought to herself, feeling the tears well up in her eyes. Screw this, she thought. I'm going home.
She takes a few steps towards making her exit when she hears a voice behind her. "Where are you going?"
She turns around and sees Brittany in the doorway; she hurriedly tries to wipe away her tears. "What's it to you?" she says harshly. "Why aren't you with the cripple?"
"Because I wanted to talk to you," Brittany says softly, and steps closer. "I really like your dress," she says with a small smile. Before Santana can react or move away, Brittany takes her hand. "I missed you," she whispers.
As if on cue, a slow ballad begins to play inside. "Dance with me?" Brittany says shyly.
Santana hesitates, remembering that Brittany isn't hers. But seeing the girl she loves more than anything standing there is too hard to resist. Brittany puts her hands around Santana's waist and Santana reluctantly places her hands on Brittany's shoulders. They sway together in time with the music, the rest of the world ceasing to exist.
This is what a fairytale must feel like, Santana thinks to herself as she dances with Brittany. This is the first time she has felt truly happy for a long time. She lets herself smile, a concept that has become foreign to her recently.
The song ends, but neither girl makes a move to step away. Slowly, Santana pulls her arms around Brittany's neck and hugs her. She misses her best friend; she's the only person in the world who ever really understood her and her revelation destroyed what they once had. Santana looks straight into Brittany's eyes, both expressing the emotions that neither of them can put into words. Suddenly they hear someone approaching, and Santana remembers that the girl in front of her isn't hers. She steps away just before the person appears.
"Brittany?" Artie says before he appears through the doorway. "Oh, there you are! I was looking everywhere for you." Santana wants to hate him for ruining everything, for being oblivious to the pain she is suffering because of him.
Brittany looks at Santana, guilt overtaking her expression. "I should go," Santana says softly, and walks away.
So much for a fairytale, she thinks to herself. The girl she loves already has her Prince Charming, while she's the one that's alone at the ball. She curses herself for believing in happy endings. Clearly she will never have one.
We're so close to reaching that famous happy ending
Almost believing this one's not pretend
Let's go on dreaming, for we know we are
So close, so close
And still so far
