Eve watched the devestated Esper stalk into his room and loudly shut the door. Another failure then. The Battle Seraph knew of Add's plans, of what he wanted to accomplish. He had told her everything with vivid excitement and enthusiasum a year ago, when he was still a Time Tracer and she Code Electra.
"What's going on with him?" A voice caught her attention. The Night Watcher was leaning against the kitchen counter, her face ever-serious.
"...I am not entirely sure." Eve stated in her monotone way of speech. It was a lie. Rena furrowed her brows slightly but focused her attention out the window, where a spar was getting out of hand.
With the Night Watcher gone to scold a certain red headed boy, Eve stood and walked to the Esper's room. She debated whether or not to knock. She didn't.
She silently opened the door and stepped in, shutting it behind her.
"What?" His voice bristled with frustration. He laid on his bed, facing the ceiling, eyes closed.
She thought about what to say, but then instead chose to be silent and walk closer. She quietly looked around his room, drawings, calculations and plans strewn everywhere. Something on his desk drew her attention.
Amidst all the chaos lay a picture, half buried in other paper. She glanced at him, seeing he was still laying. She moved aside paper and observed the picture.
It was him. As a boy. He and his family, she presumed. A man and woman, both with white hair, stood behind him and a little girl who clung to his arm.
"I suppose you've no knowledge of family." His voice spoke from behind her. Eve blinked.
"No."
His eyes held a bitter longing as they shifted from her to the photo.
"Then you would never understand my..." He broke off. "You're incapable of feeling anyway." His fist clenched and his voice was laced with anger as he stared at the picture.
"I.."
"You are. You gave them up."
She felt a spark of anger. She spun around and slapped him. He displayed surprise and gingerly raised a hand to his cheek.
"I..have been learning to feel again. No, I do not know what human family is like, but I do remember the warmth I once felt with everyone. The kindness shown to me, and is still shown." She looked at the wall blankly. "It has been difficult...but I am trying."
She looked back at him. "I will never understand your pain, but I do understand that there are those who could help you bear it." She watched his features soften, the tiniest bit.
She gently pushed him down onto the bed. He looked up at her.
"You...promised..." He quietly began. "..you would help me...even if I said no..."
She remembered. she was Electra then, and he Time Tracer.
"I will, if you would let me. " She tried, so hard to muster up a shred of feeling to put in her voice.
"Being alone...is hard." His voice wavered slightly. She wrapped her arms around his head and he placed his own on hers gently.
"You are not." It was strange, hearing no emotion, but knowing that there was, deep inside somewhere.
She lifted his face and gently pressed her lips on his forehead. She was not sure what this would have meant-but it seemingly consoled him. He lowered his arms and wrapped them around her waist instead. The seraph was slightly confused but allowed the action.
They parted after a while. He felt a new wave of motivation for some reason. Perhaps...no, impossible. He felt a grin tug at his lips. Perhaps, just maybe, he could help her regain her emotions as well. A fair exchange..no?
