Confusing Emotions

"Mail call!" Blu Scout notified, looking through the mail.

Everyone who was in the room looked up in interest and waited as Scout tossed the mail to them while announcing their name and who it was from.

"Snipe! From Mrs. Mundy!" Scout called, throwing the envelope.

The Sniper caught the letter in surprise; if his mother ever wanted to tell him something, she'd usually call. Using his bowie knife to cut the seal, Sniper pulled out the note.

Eddy, your father is dead, heart attack in his sleep.

Please, I'm sorry, come home.

The letter fell from Sniper's hand and to the ground; he was frozen. Scout frowned.

"Yo Snipe, you okay?"

Sniper gritted his teeth before he stormed out and towards his room. Scout looked to the others, they shrugged and returned to their packages, all but the Engineer, the Sniper's friend.

Engineer stood and followed towards Sniper's room, he knocked on the door. No one answered so Engineer knew the Sniper had gotten pass him.

"Dammit," he huffed before changing direction.

Engineer walked to the stairs, which were supposed to be locked, and up to the roof. The door was locked so the Engineer had to tear the knob off, silently cursing at giving himself more work, and onto the roof.

Engineer found Sniper standing on the border, looking over the edge. Normally this was how he found him around dinner but now Engineer was nervous, he knew his friend was upset, he didn't know where his mindset was.

"Howdy Edward," Engineer said cautiously, walking over with loud steps so not to surprise the other.

"I'm so confused," Mundy murmured.

"Oh, what about?" Engineer asked, finally making it over; he was tense as he kept his hand near the other's shirt, ready to grab him.

"My pa's dead, me mum wants me home," Mundy said softly, "I don't know what to do Dell."

"I thought yer parents disowned ya, something about yer job working here?" Dell asked genially bewildered.

Mundy nodded. "Pa disowned me, mum just went along. *sigh* Without another kid, I'm the only one to take over the farm," he muttered.

"Something else is pulling leg," Dell said gruffly, inviting.

Mundy trembled. "I hated my pa but I didn't want him dead," he shivered.

"Hey now," Dell rubbed Mundy's back. "He was an old man, 65, and not only that, you had nothing to do with him not waking up in the next morning."

"I know but I can't shake the freakin' thought! I just keep seein' him, dead."

Dell frowned in thought. "Did I ever tell you about my first wife?"

Mundy paused before shaking his head, a curious expression on his face.

Dell smirked. "She was a bitchy thing, I hated her everything, but just like you, I wouldn't ask her dead."

"We had been on our way to the courthouse to be divorced when we were t-boned by a drunkard; I lost my hand, she lost her life."

Mundy frowned. "What's what gotta do with me?"

Dell chuckled. "I'm gettin' to it," he said. "Had she not died and I not lose my hand, I would of never begun to design my robotic hand, not met my mentor who thought my blueprints had potential."

"I would of never become an engineer, never join Blu, never would of met you, m friend," Dell smiled, "What I'm tryin' to say is, had it not happened, she probably would of kept my down."

Dell put his hand on Mundy's shoulder. "So the question is, are you gonna let yer pa hold you down, or is he gonna help you up?"

Mundy tilted his head in wonder. "I don't know," he murmured.

Dell smiled. "I'm sure it'll come to you," he said, "come on, let's go in and tell the others you ain't dead."

"Yea," Mundy replied.

End.

Little Random on my Part.
