Laughter.
Children's laughter.
A beautiful wife at my side.
How I got here?
Well, that's a bit of a story.
After all, I went from undesired and abused orphan to a happy father and husband.
My parents were murdered when I was fifteen. Their killer, Voldemort, tried to kill me too, but their sacrifice saved me, destroying Voldemort's body, leaving him a lost spirit.
I was left with my aunt, uncle and their son. I won't go into details, sufficient to say, they were negligent at the very least, and they forced me to do their chores for them.
When I was eleven, I was introduced to the wizarding world, the world of my parents. I found out I was famous for defeating Voldemort.
I made several friends.
Neville Longbottom, a shy and kind boy with an affinity for plants.
Luna Lovegood, a friendly girl with an unique view of the world.
Blaise Zabini, a sarcastic boy with an acid wit and a strong sense of right and wrong.
And Hermione Granger, bookworm extraordinaire, a smart girl that loves to study.
Without them, I am unsure I would have coped with all the hardship at school. The philosophers stone in first year, the basilisk and the diary in second year, the escaped murderer that was not a murderer in third year and the Triwizard Tournament in my fourth. At the end of the Tournament, I stood face to face with a Voldemort after he regained his body. I beat him, thanks to all the training with my friends.
After that, the wizarding world went a bit crazy. So we left.
We staged our deaths, changed our names and looks and ended up in the states.
Hermione and I married, have two kids with a third one on the way. Luna and Neville also married, and they have a set of triplets, and a fourth one on the way. Blaise is not one for settling down, though the girl he is currently dating might finally get him to. We'll have to wait and see.
Our oldest child is going to Salem School for Magic next year. He's really looking forward to it. In some way, so am I, to go back to the wizarding world while being anonymous. Hermione says I'm being silly. Luna says the wackspurts are enjoying my company a bit too much.
At one point, I would have never believed someone could love me, now I have a loving family.
'As long as there is life, there is hope.' Someone once told me. I had trouble believing it then.
Now? Now I believe anything is possible.
