He didn't know when it had happened but somehow, she was on the forefront of his mind and there was nothing he could do about it, knowing that his mind should be on the battle that was at hand instead. Still, Neville Longbottom couldn't find a way to get Luna Lovegood out of his mind and knew that it had been that way for quite some time now, since the days of Dumbledore's Army if he remembered correctly. He recalled his Gran talking about feelings such as these about her long since passed husband, about the ways that her son Frank would speak about his beloved Alice, knew these feelings were of the same caliber. All at once, Neville knew that this Ravenclaw beauty was the one that he needed to confess his heart to, worried that if he didn't do it now he would never get the chance again as he looked about wildly for the carefree blonde that was somewhere amidst the fighting bodies.

He made his way through the crowd, narrowly avoiding a curse that would have dropped him to his knees had it hit him by a Death Eater that was too close for comfort. He saw her, a flash of blonde hair and a flick of her wand to stupefy someone that was trying to harm her, she had been quick but didn't see the raised wand of the Death Eater behind her. Knowing he didn't have much time, Neville burst through the people to tackle her, his own wand raised to deflect the Cruciatis Curse that missed her by mere centimeters before they crashed to the ground together, his body astride of her own, their eyes meeting as he hovered above her. "Neville...that was so brave of you," was Luna's whispered words of awe as she looked into his hues, her heart fluttering a mile a minute.

Neville felt his heart racing fast and not merely because he had moved so quickly but because of the fright it had had in seeing her in harms way like that and having hoped to get to her in time. Without a second thought, his hand came to cup her cheek, guiding her lips to his in their first kiss, a soft and chaste peck that lasted mere seconds but in the blink of an eye changed everything between them forever. "I couldn't let them hurt you Luna, you are my heart and without you I would never be able to go on fighting another second longer," he whispered, his cheeks flushed with color as the battle raged on without them, as if time had stood still for this single moment in time between them. He worried for her response however, knowing he had been so bold in kissing her like that but he had finally told her the words that had been plaguing his mind the last two years and here he waited for her reply.

A smile came to her lips then, her fingers raising to touch his lips in the gentlest of gestures while her other hand gripped her wand tightly just in case someone tried to ruin what could possibly be the most wonderful moment of her young life. "Oh Neville, I knew from the moment I lay eyes on you that you were the one for me, how clever of the nargles to finally bring you to me," she whispered before deflecting a curse aimed at the back of her beloved before they got to their feet. Hand in hand without another word, they rejoined the fight, with a shared promise within that kiss to be by one another's side for the battle and beyond.
