"Are you tired yet?" I ask, closing my eyes. Ten seconds pass and still no answer from my girlfriend. I open my eyes and look at the brunette lying next to me. Sure enough, she's asleep. I watch her chest slowly rise and fall with each silent breath and smile when I realize that our breathing is in sync. Not taking my eyes off of her, I take her hand and entwine our fingers.
Is this what love is like? Wanting to spend every second with them and doing creepy things like watching them and holding their hand while they sleep? Oddly enough, the thought doesn't scare me. I love Diana and I'd shout it out to the world in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd do anything for her in a heartbeat. That thought scares me. It's never been like that for me. All of my relationships have been about me wanting to be happy and I've used so many boys for the sole purpose of just having someone to do what I tell them. Just the thought of using Diana makes me feel sick to my stomach. Could it be that this time I care more about her happiness than mine? I look closely at the girl next to me while gently stroking her hand with my thumb. She looks like an angel; pure and beautiful. As I'm about to bend down to kiss her forehead she stirs.
"Faye?"
"Yeah?"
"You're still up?"
"Yeah, I've been watching you sleep."
She looks at me questioningly for a few seconds, as if she thinks that I'm joking but then the corners of her mouth turn up in a grin. "Uh huh? And how did I look?"
"Terrible," I say with a grin before kissing her forehead. She snuggles into me a bit and closes her eyes again. After a few moments of silence, I think that she is asleep again but then I hear her whisper, "Babe?"
"Hm?"
"I love you."
I hesitate for a moment before answering softly, "I love you too. And you look gorgeous when you're asleep." She smiles and squeezes my hand gently and we just lie there until we fall asleep, in each other's arms where nothing can harm us.
