"Will we meet again?"
"Sure we will."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
Chihiro woke up in a cold sweat...that dream again. Every time she had that dream, the one in which she was reminded of the dragon boy from the spirit world, it made her want to cry. She sat up, running a hand through her short brown hair while looking over at the sleeping child next to her. The girl was small, with long platinum blond hair, so light it was almost white. She smiled at her, the little girl whose name was Snow. The ten-year-old girl grew up in this world, now full of bloodshed.
A year after Chihiro left the spirit world, a war broke out, cities and towns were over run, and thousands died. including her parents and many loved ones. Chihiro shook her head clearing her thoughts. She arose quietly, careful not to wake Snow.
They where now hiding in an abandoned building with two others: Arden and Mimi. "What's wrong?" Chihiro heard the all so fruitful sound of Ardens voice. "Bad dream." Was all she said. He smiled down at her and joined her on the ledge. "Don't worry. This war won't last forever." Chihiro knew he spoke the truth, and this did bring a small smile to her face. "Who's on watch?" She asked. "Mimi." Arden replied, looking down at Snow "she's sleeping well" Chihiro knotted her head at his statement "Five years we've lived like this, you eventually get used to it" she said, looking down at the child in sadness.
The pour girl had lost her family in the beginning, Arden found her one night when he was scouting she was six then, and couldn't comprehend what was happening around her. He brought her back to the hide out they had at the time, cleaned her up, and made sure she was cared for. now this small girl looking for some hope in the world calls Chihiro mother. "She wants to come scouting with me tomorrow." Chihiro told him. "She's a smart girl." Was all he replied, she signed through her nostrils "Get some sleep." He told her "You have watch in a few hours" She nodded before making her way back to her bundle of blankets.
The next morning -
"Snow, did you find anything?" Chihiro shouted up the stairs of the small house they were salvaging. "No, mommy, There's nothing here." Snow said, running down the stairs. Chihiro frowned at the news. Well knowing that they barely had any food left. She made her way over to the living room, tossing old cloths and practically turning the house over. "Mama, outside." Snow said her voice laced with concern. Chihiro looked through the window to see troops from the army searching homes. "Shit." Chihiro muttered, grabbing Snow by her hand and heading for the back door, knowing the army would kill them on sight.
"There there!." Chihiro heard. She tightened her grip on Snow, running faster, causing Snow to stumble. She saw the dirt road up ahead, stopping in front of a building she had entered so long ago and knew all too well. "Where'd they go?" Chihiro sick with worry picked up Snow and ran inside, praying they'd be safe as she ran across the rocks. She felt a strange sensation, and shall light shining ahead of her.
All the times she came back nothing was here. Why now? Why did she run throw the streets she traveled down with her parents so long ago "Mama, where are we?" Snow asked. "Somewhere I hope we will be safe." Chihiro told the younger girls as she sat her on the ground. Snow span in the streets looking around at all the empty stalls. They soon approached the red bridge, wandering towards the bath house and to the garden "it's so pretty" Snow said examining the flowers. Chihiro smiled at her, figuring walking through the front door wasn't the best idea in the world they made there way to path that lead to the boiler room.
Chihiro walked carefully down the old steps, holding Snows hand tight. The creaking of the boards made Snow grip her hand tighter, and squeeze in tighter to her. The old rusty door was right where Chihiro remembered.
They walked in to see the old boiler man, and a smile spread across Chihiro's face. "Oh grandfather, have you missed me?" Kamaji looked at her, with one look his eyes widened. "Chihiro." He muffled, grabbing the girl and pulling her into a hug. "How are you here? What's happened? You look so grown up!" Kamaji bombarded her with questions causing Chihiro to laugh.
A startled scream broke up the happy reunion though. Chihiro turned to see Snow. "Mama, what's wrong with me?" Snow asked staring at her now see-through fingers. "She needs food" Kamaji said, grabbing some barriers from his bowl. "Have her eat this, you too." He said, handing them to Chihiro.
"Eat this." Chihiro made her way to the little girl "eat this okay" Snow quickly ate them and stared at her hands, seeing them start to turn back to normal. "See? All better." Chihiro said, grabbing Snow's hand an act on which brought memories flowing through her mind.
The sound of the door sliding open snapped Chihiro out of her thoughts. "Hey Kamaji, time to eat." Lin said, walking into the room, but stopped at the sight of her old friend. "Chihiro!" Lin screamed running and hugging her, whitch Chihiro happily returned. "Mama, who are these people?" Snow asked. Lin pulled away and looked at Snow, then to Chihiro, then to Snow again. "Mama." She muttered. "Mama!?" Lin screeched.
