Prompt: Write about a character picking up after the war

Due Date: July 31st

Neville Longbottom had fought in a war at eighteen but that was last year. He had helped defeat the Dark Lord by killing his beloved snake Nagini. He was a war hero but he still felt empty. The only person who had lived through both wars in his family was Gran. Though, technically his parents weren't exactly dead but they suffered a fate worse than death. They didn't remember him after being tortured into insanity when he was just over a year old. His relationship with his gran was tense at best before the war. She never approved of how clumsy and forgetful he was when he was in school. Though he's slightly better now. He was going over her house for tea. He finished up and apparated to her house also known as his childhood home.

"Hello Neville," she greeted stiffly.

"Hello Gran."

She invited him in, she finished getting the tea ready and poured it into two cups.

"Thank you, Gran."

She sat down across from him. He shifted uncomfortably in his chair. They drank their tea in silence.

"You know, I'm proud of you Neville."

Neville almost choked on his tea and said. "You are?"

"I haven't told you yet?"

Neville shook his head.

"You're just like your father so it's natural that you fought in the battle."

She always compared him to his parents. She thought he would be just like them or mainly his father Frank. He was more like his mum Alice especially in looks. He had been in his dad's house since his mum was a Hufflepuff. He believed that's the only thing he had in common with his father until now.

"Thank you gran."

She nodded. Well that went better then he thought it would. After that his relationship with his gran was slightly less tense.
