"Hi! You're cool. What's your name?"

She evaluated the Ugly Thing dispassionately (not that She was capable of passion in the first place). Her first thought was that Its skull resembled the paddle of an oar, and She idly wondered if She scraped the skin off Its face whether it would be a wooden oar or a plastic one. The twin braids of hair hanging off Its head intrigued Her more; the image of Her hair in similar braids flickered through her mind a fraction of a second before she dismissed the idea. She did not copy Ugly Things, after all.

She remembered that the Ugly Thing had asked Her name, and She obliged It. "Quinn Morgendorffer." She never referred to Herself as Quinn Morgendorffer, but it was the name that other Ugly Things used to address Her, and She had learned well enough that Her existence went more smoothly if she abided by the Ugly Things' expectations.

"Cool name." Another Ugly Thing had entered the conversation, with narrow eyes and unbraided hair. She did not acknowledge the compliment, as the opinion of a Ugly Thing was worth less than nothing. More Ugly Things began to approach her - to lavish praise, to solicit dates, or simply to gaze upon Her countenance. To be sure, their opinions were still worthless; their attraction to Her simply reinforced the fact that she was the only real Person.

Her peripheral vision caught Daria-thing as It got out of the car. Her eyes narrowed just slightly, as she considered It. She knew beyond an absolute doubt that She was the only real Person, but had always been plagued by whispers of paranoia that that simply wasn't the case. After all, the Ugly Things which had made Her had also made Daria-thing...and, in fact, had made It first. She had separate philosophical issues as to how two Ugly Things could have managed to create her, but the very idea that an Ugly Thing could also be a real Person terrified Her to Her very depths. After all, if one Ugly Thing could be real, they ALL could...

I'm not sure this one will be all that long, but I'll have to see where it goes when I write up the ideas I have for this.
